Reporters Ejected from Gov. Jeb Bush Speech in Florida
http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001882991

Florida Republican Party officials on Saturday called security to eject reporters listening to Gov. Jeb Bush speak to several hundred party activists in Tallahassee. Reporters had been trying to listen through an open door.

Five hotel security staffers and a sheriff's deputy led reporters away from where they could hear the governor in the middle of a speech, according to a report by the St. Petersburg Times' political editor, Adam Smith.

The Florida Republican Party on Saturday called security to eject reporters listening to Gov. Jeb Bush tout his party's accomplishments in Tallahassee.

The unusual scene - five hotel security staffers and a sheriff's deputy escorting reporters away from where they could hear the governor - occurred in the middle of a speech in which Bush exhorted party activists to spread the word of Republican successes in Florida.

26. So he's learning from his "Bro'....runs in the family. Hatred, exclusion
of the Press. Besides, in a Shrub democracy, WHO needs Free Press...or any Press at all... except Gov't. press.

Just ONCE, I wish one of our MSM anchors would stand up, throw out their "script" and say what that Ukranian anchor "signed" to the screen during last year's fraud election...that it 'was ALL a lie."

If he had had civilized parents, they would have taught him this, long ago. It's simple dignity, and keeps you from acting like a fat hyena in a suit.

8. That might explain why his mother aged so swiftly and looks so wrecked
and haggard. I wouldn't doubt that one bit. She looked so very much older than her husband when he was the Vice-President. It would also explain why the sons are absolutely unequipped for adult life. They are not disciplined, emotionally.

Thanks for the thought. It sounds plausible, doesn't it?

11. Once again Jeb VIOLATES FL Sunshine Laws
All meetings that ELECTED OFFICIALS hold are supposed to be noticed in advance and open to the public. Reporters are part of the 'public'. But of course, Jeb is above the law so obviously this doesn't matter.

30. I would have to disagree with it being a violation
If it was a meeting to conduct state business or invited to a Florida govt conducted meeting then it would be a violation.

But in this instance it would be legal because it was a political party event. There might be some aspects of the event that would have to be open to the media.

Excerpts of Sunshine Law
The Sunshine Law establishes a basic right of access to most meetings of boards, commissions and other governing bodies of state and local governmental agencies or authorities.

The Sunshine law applies to all discussions or deliberations as well as the formal action taken by a board or commission. The law, in essence, is applicable to any gathering, whether formal or casual, of two or more members of the same board or commission to discuss some matter on which foreseeable action will be taken by the public board or commission. There is no requirement that a quorum be present for a meeting to be covered under the law.

Members of a public board are not prohibited under the Sunshine law from meeting together socially, provided that matters which may come before the board are not discussed at such gatherings.

31. It depends on how you define state business
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 03:55 PM by DoYouEverWonder
but most elected officials and board members (which I have served on a few of these boards) will err of the side or openness in order to avoid even the appearance of being in violation. Even if it is a party meeting, it still is supposed to be open to the public.
