Golisano set to run (NY Gov Race - Republican Primary)
Ex-Independent eyes GOP line, may spend 125M to win gov race

BY JOE MAHONEY
DAILY NEWS ALBANY BUREAU CHIEF

Upstate billionaire Tom Golisano is poised to jump into the governor's race as a Republican - and could spend $125 million of his own money, GOP insiders told the Daily News yesterday.
Golisano, owner of the Buffalo Sabres hockey team and the founder of payroll processing company Paychex Inc., has already begun to put together a campaign team, the Republican operatives said.

Up to now, the two leading Republican candidates in the race have been former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld and former Assembly GOP Leader John Faso of Columbia County.

Faso said Golisano will have his work cut out for him because he's attacked the GOP when he ran three times previously on the Independence Party line.

...snip...

Still, a Quinnipiac College poll last week showed Golisano would be the Republican Party's strongest candidate against Eliot Spitzer, the Democratic attorney general.

1. As a Rochester native, this man [Golisano] just enjoys seeing his name...
And shedding the Independent party endorsement for a hardliner Minarik GOP endorsement is just proof that he just wants to see his name in print.

3. Or "Golisano" Children's Hospital, Or the "Golisano" College of...
Computing and Information at R.I.T. Or "Golisano" purchasing the Buffalo Sabres. I understand that philanthropy helps preserve otherwise underfunded social programs, but the Riedman Foundation here in Rochester has been doing very similar work, without the name recognition for decades.

4. I know...
And Tom built all those brand new IT labs for RIT the year after I graduated from there... thanks Tom!!! And another topic is why anyone needs to give money to RIT, considering RIT had over 100 million in the bank as of like 5 years ago.

5. Heh. I went to RIT from '93 to 96.
IT was my major, and the computer labs were sorely in a need of an update.

Hmpf.
