Canada Confirms New Case of Mad Cow Disease
Canada Confirms New Case of Mad Cow Disease

By IAN AUSTEN
Published: January 24, 2006

OTTAWA, Jan. 23 - Canada's beef industry, still reeling from a ban on shipments to the United States that was only recently lifted, faced new worries on Monday after government officials confirmed that a cow in Alberta had tested positive for mad cow disease.

The announcement by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency signifies the fourth case of mad cow disease, or bovine spongiform encephalopathy, discovered in Canadian cattle since May 2003. In addition, one of the two known cases of mad cow disease in the United States involved a Canadian cow.

"This case, of course, is unwelcome, but it's not unexpected," Brian Evans, the inspection agency's chief veterinary officer, said at a news conference in Edmonton, Alberta. "We have always maintained that we could find a small number of additional cases through our active surveillance program."

Dr. Evans said that the discovery posed no danger to human health and added that it should not affect cattle shipments to the United States, which partly resumed in July.

7. They don't cover it up in Bushland
They just use a subjective test whose results can be read several ways, let the lab know which way they want it read, then refuse to perform the definitive test to make sure on the grounds that it would be "junk science" to make sure. The only reason we know about the last U.S. case is that Fong, the Inspector General, actually seized the brain samples and forced the USDA lab to run the Western blot test.

8. The USDA isnt even in the Office...playing golf in the Bahamas, I hear.
No complaints/investigations have been followed up for 6 yrs.

This is a big cover up...has been for over 10 yrs, by the beef industry.
