Lynch: Military manipulated story
Lynch: Military manipulated story

PALESTINE, W.Va., Nov. 7 — Former prisoner of war Jessica Lynch said the U.S. military was wrong to manipulate the story of her dramatic rescue and should not have filmed it in the first place.

THE 20-YEAR-OLD private told ABC’s Diane Sawyer in a “Primetime” interview to air Tuesday that she was bothered by the military’s portrayal of her ordeal.
“They used me as a way to symbolize all this stuff,” she said in an excerpt from the interview, posted Friday on the network’s Web site. “It hurt in a way that people would make up stories that they had no truth about,” she said.
She also said there was no reason for her rescue from an Iraqi hospital to be filmed. “It’s wrong,” she said.
The former Army supply clerk suffered broken bones and other injuries when her maintenance convoy was attacked in the Iraqi town of Nasiriyah on March 23. U.S. forces rescued Lynch at a Nasiriyah hospital April 1.

Interesting, looks like the little story that was told about hte rescue is going to be challenged by the rescued individual in question. That hsould make sparks fly in DC!

3. You mean the Bronze Star didn't work???
Or the million dollar book/movie deal??

I knew it was a sad thing when the Pentagon started all the hero crap, and the media sweethearts (note I did not say Whore) picked it up and ran with it without having any facts.

9. I agree. Bust ABC will probably pull the show for being "unbalanced."
Meanwhile, Jessica is now taking a bigger risk than she ever did in Iraq. Woulda been alot easier and certainly more profitable to play along. This girl really is a hero.

This will be a ratings bonanza. Bushco looks really bad and he must be pissed!

How can we send our sentiments to Jessica?

21. hahaha. you can be sure that the RNC is behind the scenes trying desper-
ately to come up with a spin to convince the ABC people that this is somehow unpatriotic... the only trouble they have, of course, is that SHE IS THE SOURCE OF THE TRUTH, being that she is the subject, victim, hero... and witness to it all.

10. I have no problem with ...
this program. I do have a problem with the fact that they have associated it with a real person, and as a real event.

I'm sure it is a great story, but it should not be peddled as a "based on a true story" account. Jessica herself is saying that the military is wrong for manipulating the truth for this movie.

Now where are the conservatives who are outraged that about factual inacuracies of the Reagan miniseries. Perhaps the reason they don't think it is factual, is that they have their heads so far up their asses, that they will never realize that Reagan did far more harm than good to this country. The hypocrisy is thick.

Cheers
Drifter

17. Yep, she should demand that a ticker run on the bottom of the screen every
2 minutes with statement. This is a fictional movie, it in no way shape or form depicts the actual events that took place. Jessica Lynch is quoted as saying "the military is wrong for manipulating the truth for this movie."

12. Interesting article in the paper this morning...
... stated that doctors in Iraq who treated Jessica Lynch said they fully examined her and found no evidence of rape (not that we should take their word as Gospel). She still maintains she doesn't remember being raped (maybe her debriefing included a little brainwashing?), or even being slapped (person who told U.S. military where to find her claims he saw this). She says she never even fired her weapon, never fought her attackers, just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Remember, the original reports from Centcom had her firing until she was out of ammo, after being shot and stabbed. None of this was true. These are the same people who gave us the crawls on CNN, Fox and MSNBC saying 'we now control Mosul' shortly before the stations cut to an 'imbed' riding in a tank near Mosul who reported that the Iraqi army was resisting fiercely in the city and they were under heavy fire OUTSIDE Mosul. The Bush administration wanted an Audie Murphy story out of this to sell their war and used that poor kid. She SHOULD be angry. She's been through enough, leave her alone.

15. One detail wrong
CentCom never briefed on her firing her gun until it was out of ammo.

That was strictly a WH operation.

24. Here is one of the fuckers that has raped us all......
His name is Ahmed Chalabi

"Chalabi has close ties to senior Pentagon officials and is a prominent member of the council, the U.S.-appointed interim government in Iraq.

U.S. authorities insist that ties between business and government officials have not tainted any contracts. "We're following all the standard federal rules" in awarding U.S. contracts, said a Pentagon official, who asked to remain unidentified."

also i wonder if she could shed light on how any people were involved in the rescue? not sure if she would be aware of that though.

i hope she speaks out on monday after the fairytale is broadcast. would love to hear her "review" of it.

22. 3 or 4 resucers dead
Would someone please post a link. My husband hasn't heard about it and would like some background information on the story.

Were they killed in Iraq or after they got home? I seem to remember that at least one died in a weird car wreck. Is this correct?
