Reid fires back at Bush: The president has been giving us doublespeak for years

RAW STORY
Published: January 24, 2006

RAW STORY has learned that Democratic Senate leader Harry Reid is set to slash the Republican Party in a renewed assault -- just a day after President Bush launched a national effort to defend his wiretap program as "terrorist surveillance."

The speech, to be delivered shortly to the Center for American Progress, a liberal thinktank, follows.

I went to college in the 1960s and studied government. One of the things I remember discussing was a quote by Lord Acton:

“Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power tends to corrupt absolutely.”

It’s been many years since I graduated college, but I finally understand what Lord Acton meant.

Republicans today control the House of Representatives, the Senate and the White House. They have absolute power, and it has corrupted their Party and led to the culture of corruption that we see now in Washington.

10. Apologies
I like to think that Harry Reid was actually apologizing to John Gotti over his corruption remarks. ;-)

6. Harry, the boxer.
I love ya, Sen. Reid. You've taken the gloves off more than once on my behalf. Keep up the good work.

Now, about that filibuster you're going to throw at the Repugs this week...

7. There seems to be much more to Reid than meets the eye

And I'm seeing that his nerdy, unimposing, milquetoast demeanor is a velvet glove disgusing an iron first. Mousy? Hah--he's as mousy as a tiger!

8. Will he give the speech and then apologize right after? Or, will he wait
to see if anyone notices it before he apologizes. :eyes:

Media kind of laughed off his apology over the Repuglicans he was releasing info on and never focused on the info but just the apology. He won't have much credibility now, unfortunately.

11. Democrat [Reid] blasts Bush before State of the Union (less swagger)

Democrat blasts Bush before State of the Union

By Donna SmithTue Jan 24, 2:49 PM ET

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid on Tuesday urged President George W. Bush to "swagger" less and show more honesty and humility in his annual State of the Union speech to the nation next week.

In a speech at a liberal think tank, Reid gave a scathing assessment of the state of the nation under Bush and the Republican-controlled Congress.

"Republicans run good campaigns, but when it comes to actually governing and protecting Americans, they have a record of incompetence," Reid told an audience at the Center for American Progress.

.....

Reid took aim at the president's national security record, saying Bush "must unite the nation behind our most important goal -- keeping our people and way of life safe. We need to hear honesty and humility from the commander in chief, not swagger from the campaigner-in-chief.".....

12. The only problem
is that swagger is all * has! It's the swagger of the boots, the fake flight jackets, the French-cuffed sleeves adorned with gold baubles. And the swagger of the massively spoiled, petulant child-man.

Bring the Noise! Drown Out Bush’s Lies!
In large cities and small towns all across the country, join in rallies one hour before Bush’s address as we make our determination to “Drive Out the Bush Regime” the political message of the day.

At 9:00 PM EST, just as Bush starts to speak, everywhere we will BRING THE NOISE. In a cacophony of sound, we will drown out his address with music: from drums to violins, from hip hop and classical; and with noise: banging pots and ringing church bells, sound car horns and lifting our voices.
