Executives renew effort for terminal at border

Secured passageway would link U.S. to Tijuana airport

A group of San Diego business leaders is reviving efforts to develop a cross-border terminal on Otay Mesa that would connect with the Tijuana airport by way of a secured tunnel or overhead walkway.

Leading the effort is local real estate magnate Malin Burnham, who said the idea of the cross-border terminal fits with efforts to bring the 2016 Summer Olympics to the binational area.

Burnham and a group of San Diego and Tijuana business executives raised the possibility of the cross-border terminal with Mexican government officials in December while on a Mexico City trade mission arranged by the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce's Mexico Business Center... "We're only talking about a terminal, not an airport, on our side of the border," Burnham said. "We think it can make a lot of sense."
