Israeli, Indian NSAs to talk Iran next week

NEW DELHI, JANUARY 24: On February 2, when the US wants the IAEA board to meet for possible referral of Iran to the UN Security Council, Israel’s National Security Advisor will be briefing his counterpart in Delhi about the threat Tehran poses to Tel Aviv.

Official sources today confirmed that Israeli NSA Giora Eiland will be on a two-day India visit from February 1 to revive the strategic dialogue after a gap of four years. He will hold talks with NSA M K Narayanan and senior officials of Foreign and Defence ministries.

Eiland, who was in Moscow last week to try and convince Russia about the urgency to take Iran to UNSC, will seek Delhi’s support against Tehran’s nuclear activities.

While Delhi wants to avoid a confrontation on the Iranian issue, Israel has been taking the line that a nuclear Tehran is not only bad news for Tel Aviv but also South East Asia. Israeli Army chief Lt Gen Dan Halutz has already warned that if Iran continues with enrichment, it will have the bomb by 2008.

1. Both have a serious problem.....
they don't feel like being NUKED into annihilation by a psychotic holocaust-denying terror-supporting reactionary.

Other than that, really nothing to see.

2. Yes, unlike the psychotic controlling the US nukes. I'm sure Iran
just can't wait till it gets its first nuclear weapon so that it can rush right out and nuke Israel.

3. Amazingly , Chirac has a major problem with a nuclear Iran also ...
Chirac threatens nuclear weapons against 'terrorist' states

President Jacques Chirac for the first time raised the threat of a nuclear strike on any state that launches "terrorist" attacks against France.

He also said France's doctrine of nuclear deterrence has been extended to protect the country's "strategic supplies", taken to mean oil.

"Leaders of any state that uses terrorist means against us, as well as any that may be envisaging -- in one way or another -- using weapons of mass destruction, must understand that they would be exposing themselves to a firm and appropriate response on our behalf," he said.

"That response could be conventional, it could also be of another nature," Chirac said in a clear reference to nuclear weapons during a visit to a French nuclear base in the northwestern region of Brittany.

pact. Fallout from an explosian in Iran , I would think would be more troubling to India IMHO

7. India in this case is put in a very precarious position.
They have generrally maintained good relations with both countries, though its historical ties with Iran are older. Iran is Shiite and while I'm sure the hhardliners support Pakistan in tthe Kashmiri situation, thehy've genereally stayed out of the way. In recent years though, we see thaat AQ Khan apparently sold Iran various components for constructing nukes. In recent years, India has also seen a growing energy appetite, which is why they are also interested in building a pipeline (theh US is trying to stop them).

However in recent years, India has also become closer to Israel as well. Israel is believed to have given them assistance in intelligence in a conflict in '99 with Pakistan. Also Israel has been onne of India's largest defense suppliers.

10. India's successes in recent war games with US
was quite suprising to their Murkin partners. Maybe we can outsource the airforce and save.
