Earle Probes Possible Cunningham-DeLay Tie

Wednesday January 25, 2006 4:48 AM

By SETH HETTENA

Associated Press Writer

SAN DIEGO (AP) - The Texas prosecutor targeting Rep. Tom DeLay has issued a second round of subpoenas to businessmen here seeking records surrounding donations to the former Republican leader and disgraced former Rep. Randy ``Duke'' Cunningham.

The subpoenas issued by Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle's office zero in on transactions in 2002 involving PerfectWave Technologies LLC, a company controlled by Brent Wilkes, a businessman with ties to DeLay and Cunningham.

Wilkes' attorney has identified him as an unidentified co-conspirator of Cunningham, a California Republican who resigned from Congress after pleading guilty in November to accepting $2.4 million in bribes from defense contractors.

DeLay, charged with conspiring to launder campaign money that was given in 2002 for legislative races in his home state of Texas, flew three times on a jet owned by another Wilkes company, according to campaign records.

4. Well give me some of that there
 With real butter please.

Sheesh how many lawyers does BugBoy need. I think I have heard of at least 3, betcha there's more though.

Go Ronnie:applause:

Show those wambulance lawyers that the paper that the subpoenas are written on isn't the issue. The issue is BugBoy has committed crimes and now he will have to pay. I'm sure he has plenty of money stashed somewhere, maybe his off shore accounts. After all he was on the take as well as his wife and daughter...

 Show us the money...

3. This shouldn't be hard to prove
One of the figures charged with bribing Cunningham, Brent Wilkes, gave $30,000 to The Hamper, flew him on his jet several times, and was a "golfing buddy". Wilkes also paid $630,000 to the Alexander Strategy Group, a well known conduit to DeLay's office, whose leaders are also being investigated in connection with the federal probe into Jack Abramoff.

8. Has Ronnie Earle probed Tom Craddick, the Texas House Speaker?
Wasn't he in cahoots with the bugman?

9. DeLay's lawyer seems to think that subpeonas have monetary value....
"Matt Hennessy, an attorney for DeLay, said the latest subpoenas were not worth the paper they were printed on."

Does this mean that he thinks a subpeona (and maybe an indictment?) can be bought or sold? I always thought that the actual monetary value of something depended on a willing seller and a willing buyer. Just askin'.
