Gov. Bush Asks to Meet Guardian (Schiavo case)
Request to meet with the guardian ad litem of brain-damaged Terri Schiavo prompts questions from lawyers and legal experts.

Gov. Jeb Bush has asked to meet with Terri Schiavo's new court-appointed guardian, saying he wants to express his concerns in person and assist the medical expert in ''determining the scope'' of his review of the brain-damaged woman's case.

Bush sent his letter Thursday to University of South Florida professor Jay Wolfson, the guardian ad litem for Schiavo, a 39-year-old woman who has been in a vegetative state since a 1990 heart attack.

The request prompted questions from lawyers for Schiavo's husband, who has been locked in a bitter legal battle with his in-laws.

(snip)

''This is the latest example of the governor's intrusion into this case. I find it very inappropriate,'' said Howard Simon, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida, which recently joined Michael Schiavo's legal team.

1. hahahahaha! This is so classic for Floridian politics.
This place really does operate on a three tiered system. There's a system that targets minorities, another for the mainstream and then there's the "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" rules for the patrones. The patrones don't follow "the process" in Florida. They are very much a class of people that believe protocol does not apply to them. And the fact that Bush is so comfortable crossing the line in broad daylight let's you know how comfortable they are about their fiefdom.

2. I think I would like to intervene in Jeb's daughter's drug problems
Yes, I think I could have handled that much better. I wonder if he would mind?

3. This contrived posture as someone who "cares"
...for the helpless is in complete contrast to the irreversible harm that he has done to the states child protective services, state education system including high school, colleges and universities, and the state's health system. Here he is intervening inappropriately and unconstitutionally in a matter well within the purview of the courts concerning one individual situation when he has literally damaged the lives of hundreds of thousands with his gouge the poor and middle class policies.

Why doesn't he pay back the $300,000,000.00 he stole from the state pension fund for Enron? He should have been indicted and put in prison by now.

4. He's gonna make this poor lady the poster child for his WH bid
I keep saying it. He is tub thumbing and grandstanding for the right-to-lifers. This formula worked for his brother in TX, only with the death penalty (ironic heh?)

He's gonna try and surf this case all the way to Washington. The longer he keeps her alive, the more attention he gets.

Pretty clever actually

5. Clever, like his "I have a devious plan"
...to reduce high school to three years, ensuring larger bumper crops of incompetent citizens.
