McCain says it's not clear if laws were broken

WASHINGTON Republican Senator John McCain says he doesn't know if President Bush broke any laws by authorizing agents to listen-in on phone calls to and from the U-S involving suspected terrorists.

McCain told N-B-C he's looking forward to the hearings scheduled for early February, so he can find out more about the eavesdropping program.

But he adds that no one wants to keep the government from hearing a conversation involving an al-Qaida operative that could "be a threat to the United States."

He knows damn well how this administration works.

Any political opposition can be deemed a "threat" and subject to wiretapping and worse. What a sellout McCain has become.

8. For this thing to clear up or good much farther,
it has to come down to a court deciding upon legal or illegal. Does what Bush is doing violate the 4th Amendment or not? All the rest is just bullshit. Hard core repukes will say he's trying to protect us. "Don't you fell safer?" Untill some court decides(and it will be SCOTUS eventually), it is smoke and mirrors and he said, she said.

17. I don't know if Bush broke the law either
Edited on Wed Jan-25-06 02:08 PM by endarkenment
when he shipped pet rocks to the moon. Then again Bush didn't ship pet rocks to the moon. Nor did he authorize agents to listen-in on phone calls to and from the U-S involving suspected terrorists.

Bush did break the law when he allowed the NSA to conduct warrantless monitoring of people within the united state. He broke the law and he violated the constitution.

Had Bush authorized agents to listen-in on phone calls to and from the U-S involving suspected terrorists he could have obtained a warrant to do so, either before or after the act, using the FISA court. He didn't obtain warrants from the FISA court because that is not what he was doing.

19. Wow, it didn't take long for Rove to call McCain...
...and demand that McCain publicly re-state his opinions about the wiretapping.

Sheesh! It took McCain just a few hours to comply.

How obvious is all of this?

Every time anyone says anything remotely lacking in luster--regarding Bush or his policies--within a few days, they retract or qualify their statements.

I've noticed Republicans doing this as well as Democrats.

Why in the hell don't ALL politicians tell Rove to take his bullshit and shove it? I'm sick and tired of Republicans and Democrats kow towing to these third-rate, trailer-trash thugs. Are we all being held hostage while we slide into fascism--because Rove has dirt on politicians?

Wouldn't that just be sick---if our country slid into fascism, because several members of Congress were attempting to hide their affairs, visits to prostitutes, crimes and other shenanigans?

I'm so sick of this foolish crap.

Welcome to the democrazy.
