Governor set to introduce large tax cuts
Plan represents biggest reduction in state history
John Kennedy
Tallahassee Bureau Chief

January 27, 2006

TALLAHASSEE -- Gov. Jeb Bush is expected next week to propose the biggest tax-cut package in state history, including a property-tax reduction that would save most homeowners less than $100 a year but mean millions of dollars to large landowners.

The $1.5 billion proposal also will include a roughly $500 million sales-tax holiday similar to one unveiled earlier this month by House leaders, along with a host of smaller cuts, said those familiar with the plan.

The cuts are meant to cap Bush's final year as the state's chief executive and boost his Republican Party's standing in a pivotal election year.

Central to Bush's plan is about $500 million in a property-tax reduction that could save the owner of a home assessed at $300,000 about $80 a year.

2. Wow, eighty bucks?

My dad would have been delighted. However, unless Jebbipoo had done away with the intangibles tax (the way Florida screws seniors who aren't subject to income tax), his joy would have been subdued. Losing that tax completely would have had him doing his happy dance (at 89) and doing penance for voting for Kerry in 2004.

Jebbie campaigned on getting rid of the intangibles tax here, but all he bothered doing was getting a feel good reduction of it. It's the major way Florida attracts seniors, by YELLING there is no income tax but whispering that they make their money off investment taxing. It's also the way they manage to get enough money to run a state with such a large proportion of seniors who are living on social security and investment income, not job income.

3. I love it when they run on lower taxes. Good old stand by
Can't think of any thing, run on I will cut your taxes. Every one loves it even if the bridge they must cross every day falls apart. Guess we will have to wait for those 'rich' people to build a new bridge as we know they are the only ones that hire any work done.

this bastard is screwing the next generation for his big business cronies

may he be justly punished - this family is singly destroying the fabric of our country - and these intellectually-challenged reich-wingers are falling for it and providing the needed support -
