Former Indian PM urges government to seek recall of US envoy
http://www.irna.ir/en/news/view/menu-239/0601285768095036.htm

Former Indian Prime Minister V P Singh urged the government to seek the immediate recall of US Ambassador to India David C Mulford and review the bilateral nuclear deal with the US.

He described as "blackmail and superpower arm-twisting" American Ambassador David C Mulford's controversial statement linking India's stand on Iran to the Indo-US agreement for cooperation in civil nuclear energy.

...

It had now become clear that the United States wanted to use its promises made in the bilateral nuclear agreement, signed during the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Washington in July last year, to "squeeze out immediate benefits in other fields outside the deal," he said.

Mulford had reportedly said that if India voted in favor of Iran at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on February 2 its vote would have a "devastating" effect on the Indo-US nuclear deal.

4. I think India just threw its cards down
on the table. I've been waiting for this. I've been wondering how many times India could be insulted, get sand kicked in its face, they've been patient, smoothed over the frustration from past meetings, until today.

The Indians have been watching with increasing shock and alarm, the outrageous behavior of the US. I've been reading articles in Indian newspapers, and it's not good.

Well, good for them. NOW WATCH them become super-good buddies with Iran, just so show the US a thing or two.

5. BJP miffed with Rice remarks on nuke deal with Washington
New Delhi | January 28, 2006 9:10:02 PM IST

The Opposition BJP today joined the chorus against remarks made by US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice that New Delhi had "difficult choices" to make over the Iran vote and the Indo-US nuclear deal.

Her statement comes close on the heels of US ambassador David C Mulford's remarks that if India did not vote against Iran in the February 2 IAEA Board of Governors meeting in Vienna, the fallout on the July 18, 2005 deal would be "devastating" and the initiative would "die". Later Mulford issued a statement saying he had been quoted out of context ...

"We object to the statement by the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice linking the nuclear deal with Iran vote and also US's objection to the oil fields in Syria. These are not right. It is a thing of grave concern for India. Linking of the nuclear deal that was signed on July 8 with the Iran vote is not at all right," Singh told a news conference in New Delhi ...
