Half-Million Baby Teethers Recalled (from The First Years Inc.) |
|
A Massachusetts company on Friday recalled 500,000 liquid-filled baby teethers distributed in the United States and Canada because of a possible bacterial contamination that could cause serious illness.
<snip>
Three of the products affected feature popular cartoon characters. The Disney Days of Hunny Soft Cool Ring Teether, bearing style number Y1447, and the Disney Soft Cool Ring Teether, bearing style number Y1470 or Y1490, feature Winnie-the-Pooh characters. The Sesame Beginnings Chill and Chew Teether, style number Y3095, features Sesame Street characters.
The other teethers recalled are The First Years Cool Animal Teether (style number Y1473) and The First Years Floating Friends Teether (style number Y1474). These feature fish and other animal graphics.
Major retailers, including grocery, drug and specialty stores, sold the product nationwide and in Canada from July 2005 through January 2006. For more information, call the company at 866-725-4407 or visit http://www.thefirstyears.com or http://www.fda.gov.

1. Hmmm... this happened several years ago, too. |
|
I had to take my son's little teething ring away from him! And now he's in third grade...
Maybe they should retire the design.

2. Plastic containers with liquids in them tends to eventually leak |
|
particularly if they're chewed on... DOH, what are these people thinking? Yes, they really should consider retiring that deisgn. And also get rid of those plastic ice cubes things you freeze and put in your drinks, because sometimes the plastic leaks and contaminates your drink with bugs from who knows what Chinese pond. This too has been reported.... Maybe Alito would like a nice, cold drink....

3. Then, there were the pacifiers that popped off the holding ring... |
|
...and were inhaled by babies. We had to replace all of our daughter's pacifiers, when that recall happened--must have been around 1995 or 1996.

4. Remember the ones that turned out to be filled with HongKong Harbor water? |
|
Bleah. Those were the ones I thankfully didn't give my baby daughter (now 30 y.o.) -- but reading about this problem all over again reminds me I have to check out the one she left in my freezer for her little boy!

5. Why do people still even buy teethers? |
|
a frozen damp washcloth is free and it even sops up the drool:) we also used rubber gloves filled with water and frozen..It they are tied tight and doubled, most babies can't bite holes in them and they are fun for the baby too:)
