this is terrible news--just his wrist?

Ex-dictator Pinochet injured in fall
Saturday 08 November 2003

Former Chilean dictator General Augusto Pinochet has been taken to Santiago's Military Hospital after breaking his wrist in a fall at his seaside home in Vina del Mar.

Medical sources on Friday said Pinochet, 87, had a dizzy spell and fell in the bathroom of his coastal resort home, 110km west of the Chilean capital.

Pinochet, who suffers from diabetes and age-related ailments, was hospitalised twice previously this year.

The former general had faced some 300 charges related to the deaths and disappearances of more than 3000 of his political opponents during a brutal 17-year military reign, which lasted until 1990.

1. Maybe he was not drunk enough
to keep from seeing the faces of the thousands and thousands of people he had murdered, and lost his balance.

Maybe they're coming for you, sir.

9. No he tripped over a pile of thumbscrews and branding irons
That his henchmen used to inflict torture on thousands. I think some higher power is going to have a heart to heart talk with him, sometime in the future.

As for me I could never rejoice at his death or his pain, to do so would make me worse than he is because, I have a conscience and a soul and he apparently has neither.

3. most car accidents happen within a few miles of home, and most
accidents inside the home happen in the bathroom.

cars and bathrooms are two of humankind's worst enemies. well, accident-wise, anyway.

5. Pinochet can't afford to leave his home anymore
and risk being taken somewhere and tried for his part in the deaths of thousands and thousands of "leftists" in Chile.

It's a miracle he was allowed to return to his home and escape prosecution.

He should be doing his falling down in a prison these days, or worse.

I love Frank Capra because he was right.

A broken bone is not Justice.

8. Why couldn't he have broken his neck?
At least his demise is slow and painful. A quick death would be too humane for him.

11. Idi Amin just died. We can't expect
too many ousted dictators to all die at once.
He is old and feeble. He will have his day.

12. something all these vile brutes forget...
there may indeed be a God, and the innocence they destroyed isn't forgotten; the only refuge for most of them is stupidity
