Oregon Senator Ron Wyden Demands Intelligence Committee Fully Investigate NSA Domestic Surveillance E-Mail a Friend

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), a member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, today released the following statement regarding the delays in the Intelligence Committee's efforts to investigate the NSA domestic wiretapping program:

"The job of a congressional committee is to provide oversight, which is why it is vital that the Intelligence Committee investigate the NSA domestic surveillance program - it is our job. The committee has a responsibility to get the full story about this program and determine if the Administration in fact broke the law.

"While the investigation by the Judiciary Committee will examine the legal and constitutional issues about the program, the Intelligence Committee is the only committee that has the capability to find out, in detail, what actually happened.

"I share the concerns of millions of Americans about whether this program crosses the line between protecting our nation and spying indiscriminately on law-abiding Americans.

1. So that is how it is going to go down???
Judiciary Committee is going to examine legal and constitutional issues not get the the bottom of what exactly happened? Who was spyed on, when the spying started ect.? So basically what the plan is is to make the legal arguments that have already been debunked by Constitutional scholars across the country, and to have the Republican committee members agree with Gonzales et al. and to tell the public to move along and there is nothing to see here? WTF is that? Why did I expect anything different.

Wyden says we need to have the Senate Intelligence Committee investigate and find out when, who, why, what, and how. Oh yeah, that is gonna happen. Right after they finish their investigation into how the administration manipulated intelligence in the run up to war.

I get sick and tired of reading this shit day in and day out.

2. Chairman Pat Roberts already said on
Wolf Blitzer's show today, that he thinks what the pResident is doing is legal. He also said he believes it is legal under the Constitution. When Wolf asked Roberts if he was going to hold hearings, he mumbled that he was having a "briefing". And they call us traitors????????

3. and we must investigate the NSA spying BEFORE
Alito gets confirmed. There's just no excuse for even considering putting a Bush nominee on the Court until we know whether these people believe in the Constitution.
