Abramoff Scandal Forces Republican Reversal on New Ethics Laws

Jan. 30 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. Representative David Dreier once tried to torpedo an effort to limit corporate political donations. He voted to allow charities to fly lawmakers to their events and to let Republicans keep their leadership posts even if indicted.

Now, the California lawmaker has been tapped by Republicans in the House of Representatives as the leader of a move to strengthen lobbying and ethics laws amid the scandal involving Jack Abramoff. Dreier's record, and those of other Republican leaders, illustrates why the party may struggle to convince voters it's serious about overhauling the money-in-politics system.

Congressional Republicans are standing against their own history of embracing lobbyists and relaxing ethics rules since they took control of Congress in 1995, some lawmakers and analysts say.

3. there's nothing they can do anymore to hide. if they fight it, they lose.
if they reverse their position, they lose. we've screwed them completely... hey kids, feel good about yourselves. we finally did something that made them get totally confused. the 'thugs have jumped the shark.*

*for those of you unfamiliar, when Fonzie "jumped the shark" in a horrible episode of "Happy Days," his viewers who believed in his "coolness" almost universally lost faith. it took them years to believe in him again. certainly longer than an election cycle. 8^)

4. I think Repub's are doing to shut out the Dem's in the future
Think about it - the Repub's all got theirs in the past, they make up new rules
so Dem's won't be able to raise funds in future election cycles. It's just one
big ploy

5. Isn't it nice that they can take advantage of the fact that no one
would call Drier a FAGGOT to his face? That WE have enough respect of all of humanity to NOT call HIM a degrogatory term, but THEY WOULD, and they used that same shit to steal the last election, the GAY Marraige attacks..

I know it's not PC, but someone needs to stand up and say, "HEY, who's the fucking GAY MAN trying to tell ME, a Heterosexual all about family values while HE commits Sodomy based on his OWN PLATFORM?"

It's time for some seriously NASTY language to be used on these little shits that screw everyone for being JUST LIKE THEM.

No offense to my Gay Friends, I know many that would stand up and say the SAME THING..

I also love how they are all against abortion yet they let their leaders like Chimpy McCokeSpoon sign LAWS into effect that will let them use HUMAN PREGANT WOMEN as Lab ANIMALS, shooting them up with PESTICIDES!

How would he feel if someone had the power to shoot his own daughters UP withe DDT?

Goddam Hypocrites, they should all be STONED by the Public and sent to the Hague in irons.

6. Dreier was on NPR last week
Saying that the Republicans are the party of honesty, transparency, etc. And the reporter didn't even say, "how can you keep a straight face?" These fascist cretins are shameless.
