Ken Lucas to Challenge Geoff Davis
BREAKING NEWS – IT’S A GREAT DAY FOR NORTHERN KENTUCKY DEMOCRATS.

Ken Lucas: “I’m running for Congress to return Kentucky values and common sense to Washington.”

Statement from Congressman Ken Lucas:

“Today I am filing to run for Congress to represent Kentucky’s fourth congressional district. In 2004, I had planned to retire from elected public service. But, over the last year, I’ve grown concerned about the widespread public corruption news coming from the Congress and the increased partisanship in the U.S. House of Representatives. I’m disappointed that Geoff Davis has done nothing to separate himself from many of the figures involved in those scandals and that he has voted almost exclusively with his national party’s congressional leadership at the expense of bipartisan cooperation and good will.”

“I’m running for Congress to return Kentucky values and common sense to Washington. During my years in Congress, I worked hard to be a conservative, independent steward of the public trust. I worked with President Bush to cut taxes, protect the Homeland, grow the economy, and support our military. I worked with folks in my party to protect Social Security, help our farm economy, and improve education and health care in our area. I never cared about my colleagues’ party registration. I always did what I thought was right for Kentucky and the country. I put aside partisanship and worked constructively with Republicans and Democrats alike on a host of issues that mattered to the people I represented.”

“If privileged to be elected to another term, I will bring that same sense of fair-mindedness and respect to the job. I hope that there can be some real change in Washington. We need more people to serve who are willing to put politics and partisanship aside. We need to work together on an agenda that can unify the country and help people believe again that our government can work and people’s opinions can be respected. I am no rabid partisan. I am, however, energized and eager to get back to work. With the full support of my family, I look forward to an aggressive campaign and to a full plate of issues that deserve responsible attention in Washington next year.”

2. I found this on Taegan Goddard's Political Wire.
"Lucas Wants His Seat Back

Former Rep. Ken Lucas (D-KY) "came out of political retirement Monday to challenge freshman Rep. Geoff Davis (R-KY) for the congressional seat that he gave up after three terms to fulfill a campaign pledge," the AP reports.

CQ Politics says "the comeback try by the 72-year-old Lucas, who did not seek re-election in 2004, dramatically shifts the prospects for serious competition in the 4th. CQ has changed its Election Forecaster rating to Leans Republican — a highly competitive category — from its uncompetitive Safe Republican category." '

3. I wonder if Davis will make age a factor...though Reagan was 73 in 84...
