Clark draws an overflow crowd at Tech

When Gen. Wesley Clark brought his presidential campaign to Atlanta on Friday, two young men were waiting with a special reason to enlist in his cause.

Jon Reames and Brad Owens, both recently discharged from military service in the Iraqi war effort, were sitting in the front row at Georgia Tech with the U.S. flag they had used in their barracks in Kuwait draped across their laps.

"I was in Army intelligence and a lot of us were concerned about what the United States was doing over there," said Reames, 21, who was wearing a crisp, new American Legion hat.

"I think General Clark's criticism of President Bush on Iraq is right on the money," chimed in Owens, 32, who had driven with his friend from Augusta.

1. This pretty much
debunks the myth that the military hates Clark.

For every Bush supporting General who throws out vague innuendos there will be thousands of men and women like these to counter the spin.

2. One case...
If you were a scientists you would be more skeptical. But wishful thinking always plays a role. I'm not saying they hate him, but don't just think thats proof they ALL like him.

4. LOL! Cavebat is correct
I've heard of teeny-tiny statistical sampling before, but this takes the cake. One visit to Georgia Tech isn't exactly a sounding of the military's fondness or hatred of Clark.

11. I'm a Vietnam Era Veteran and speaking for myself

and my spouse who is also a Veteran - we are extremely pro Clark. Check out the comments on the Veterans for Clark website where there are numerous veterans and active duty people who are strongly for Clark. (The page that's up is only the latest in a volume of pages and there were a lot more active duty on the previous comment pages.)

I'd never say that the 'entire' military likes Clark any more than I'd say they all like Bush. But it's obvious that there are many who do.

Here's a sampling of some of the comments (Name, Rank, Branch of Service and dates of service at the top):

----------------------------

Matt Moore
SPC, U.S. Army
City – Kensett, AR

Comments - When I returned from Iraq, last month, I heard the rumor, that the General might be running for President. Now that he has made it official, I couldn't be any more psyched. The past two years, we've watched the Bush administration make people feel like they weren't patriotic, if they didn't support every little thing he did. I would LOVE to see George W., question General Wesley Clark on his patriotism.

----------------------------

Andrew Topetzes
Rank - LCpl., U.S. Marine Corps
City – Columbus, OH
3/2000-present

Comments - I am a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Like the rest of you, I proudly answered my nation's call to duty, despite my own beliefs. Our own President weaseled his way out of Vietnam and then went UA from his reserve unit. Now, he is sending my peers off to die for his personal cause...one which he lied to all of us about. We need Gen. Clark BADLY. He is the only person able to lead us through these times. Even though he wasn't a Marine, he truly embodies our motto of "Semper Fidelis"...Always Faithful. Let's see Georgie Porgey question Gen. Clark's patriotism!

-----------------------------------

Michael Kabrin
Rank - SSgt , Air Force
City – Reno, NV
1994-2003

Comments - We need a leader who will straighten out the mess we are in currently. I believe Gen. Clark is that man.

-------------------------------------

Murph Kinney
Rank - Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army
Antioch, CA
1984-Present

Comments - Finally a credible threat to Mr. Bush, and a man whose honor and integrity is unquestioned. Without dissent, democracy is lost.

Forrest (Bill) Hilbish
CW04 (Retired)
US Navy
Mogadore, Ohio
1975-1999

Comments - I worked for General Clark while stationed at SCJ6 Current Operations Branch for USSOUTHCOM in Panama. He was an excellent leader and commander. My wife was impressed by the fact that even though there were hundreds of officers working for him, he knew both of our names. He replaced General Barry McCaffrey (Drug Czar for Clinton). I am a Republican but I would vote for the "ONE" Democrat. Good luck General...

Robert C. Palermo II
Rank - E-5 PO2, U.S.Coast Guard,
New Orleans, LA
1998-2002

Comments - Gen. Clark is a man who has spent his entire life in the service of his country in the bravest and most selfless way that a person can. He embodies all the things that make America the great nation that it is. He will bring those qualities to the presidency, and I for one cannot wait to have a chance to vote for him. He will make a great president.

Its easy to see that Gen Clark is the superior candidate. Rhodes Scholar? First in his Class at West Point? And he realizes that while the only way to secure peace is to prepare for war, he is against sending our brothers and sisters to die, on a "What if..." He values human life, he values our military, and I believe he wants what's best for America... and has the intelligence, know-how and vision to see it through. I salute you, sir!

5. Dean's too shoot-from-the-hip to be veep
Doesn't know how to strike that look of Gore-like subservience; wouldn't work.

But I suspect Clark could be comfortable with second fiddle.

7. My favorite quote from this speech:
"You can't be a leader if nobody comes along." Referring to the Bush administration "leadership" in dealing with the iraq situation.

8. That is a great quote.
Also, I suspect clark may get a lot of support from the enlisted ranks, whereas the officers will look elsewhere (i.e. 'Pub).

9. Anyone who can afford to, please donate to his campaign!
He's going up against two very rich people.
He's going up against people who have so
much money they're spurning the federal
matching funds.
