Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, in Columbus, Ga. Burgoyne pleaded
guilty Jan. 20, 2006, to voluntary manslaughter, robbery by
force, possesion of a knife during a crime and concealing
the death of a person.

Jacob Burgoyne, a 3rd Brigade soldier who admitted he contributed to the murder of Spc. Richard Davis in July 2003, heard from Davis' parents Monday as he stood before the judge for sentencing.

Lanny Davis, the slain soldier's father, leaned over the witness stand and raised his voice as he addressed Burgoyne.
"You murdered my son," Davis said. "You're nothing but a cold-blooded, dirty murderer."

Burgoyne, 26, testified for the state last week against fellow Pfcs. Mario Navarrete and Alberto Martinez, both of whom were convicted and sentenced to life followed by 15 years in prison for the murder of Davis on July 12, 2003. The murder was committed a day after the four, plus Pfc. Douglas Woodcoff, returned from a tour in Iraq. All were drinking during their night out in Columbus, when Burgoyne and Davis got into a fight upon leaving the Platinum Club on the Manchester Expressway, testimony revealed. Woodcoff's only charge is concealing the death of a person.

Martinez, the car's driver, drove to a wooded area off Milgen Road and stabbed Davis more than 33 times. The soldiers then bought lighter fluid and returned to the woods, where Burgoyne burned Davis' body, according to trial testimony.
