State of the War? U.S. Support Fades

Majority says U.S. has done all it could and should withdraw: Enemy has staying power, new Zogby Interactive poll shows

President Bush is under fire over his Iraq policies, as a majority of likely voters nationwide say they are not pleased with his handling of the war there, a new Zogby Interactive survey shows.

As the President delivers his annual State of the Union message, 55% of the voting public favors a phased withdrawal of troops from Iraq, believing the U.S. has accomplished all it realistically can in the Middle Eastern nation.

Many disagree that the enemy in Iraq is getting worn down and that the U.S. will eventually win the war. Just 40% agree with that statement, while 59% do not. Similarly, while 41% favor escalating the Iraq conflict, using more missiles and heavy artillery against insurgents – but a 56% majority opposes this approach.

1. Yes, but can they find Iraq on a map?
Sorry, but asking the average citizen about Iraq and getting a 55% answer signifies nothing but a random
result from a totally uninformed public.

2. It's not random
the number will correlate highly into votes in the 2006 elections, whether people know where Iraq is or not.

20. I participated too
You have to sign up with Zogby, they don't do 'man on the street' type polls.

3. Interesting choice of words...
When the Republicans want to bring the troops home, they call it "phased withdrawal".

But when Murtha suggested bringing the troops home, Bush says the Dems want to "cut and run".

(Bush may soon be tripping over his forked tongue.)

4. I'd like to see the total results of that poll.
I took one online a few days ago that looks very much like the results Zogby posted. There were a lot of questions on that poll I'd love to see the results of.

13. I took the same survey
My favorite answer was the one I gave to "Which presidential speech is most important?" After inaugural, SOTU, nomination, and speech after a tragedy, they had listed "Other." I put in "Bush's resignation speech."

6. Lets do the math for the average American
Avian flu in Iraq + 1918 Influenza + Oprah explaining how the returning soldiers in WW1 brought that last bird flu here.

Presto...American with-drawl jumps to 90 percent.

7. I took this poll
some of the questions were badly constructed, such as what should be the feds response to... be. If you want to participate Zogby has a website you can go to and register with and get e-mails containing their surveys I've been getting about one a month.

12. Well let's see who does not support him....
<snip>

However, the President does not win the hearts and minds of a number of other groups, including moderates and liberals, large city dwellers, Catholics, women, non-investors, and households containing members of a labor union. And among a number of key swing constituencies, including small city residents and suburbanites, there are clear signs of fatigue with the war.

14. Much as I like Zogby, I question poll. I tried responding several times
and it kept freezing, mid-poll. Kept telling me to "Try back later." I wasted close to an hour or more trying to complete poll, went back several times. Most would NOT have taken even that much time.

If hetruly wants "good" numbers, Z needs to clean up his "glitches."

17. I got same responce for a while. The site was very busy for a while.

I guess it was about the time that many started to respond to the poll. Went back about an hour later and it was fine.

18. What was amazing was MSM were discussing this after SOTU
I couldn't bring myself to watch that fucking lying piece of shit last night, but I tuned in after for the Dem response and commentary. NBC had a roundtable and they basically bashed the speech, pointed out how inaccurate it was in places, and talked about the poll, saying that the nation has decided the war is a waste, and nothing Smirk says can change that now. And since he said virtually nothing else of value, the speech was a waste.

You could see them wracking their brains trying to come up with something nice to say, but they didn't come up with much.
