Republicans Campaign Against `Borrow-and-Spend' Republicans
Republicans Campaign Against `Borrow-and-Spend' Republicans

Feb. 3 (Bloomberg) -- Richard Tarrant's campaign Web site flashes a running tally of the national debt as a protest, he says, of the ``borrow-and-spend Republicans'' in Washington.

Tarrant is a Republican. He's also a candidate for Vermont's open U.S. Senate seat and among a group of party insurgents who want Republicans to reconcile their stated philosophy of fiscal restraint with the spending binge they've led over the past five years. The debt ticker is at $8.199 trillion and counting.

``Fiscal responsibility is part of our Republican culture,'' said Tarrant, a 63-year-old millionaire who co-founded Burlington, Vermont-based software company IDX Systems Corp. ``Any time we go away from that, I want to distance myself.''

~snip~

``Tarrant has to be very, very careful how he plays the budgetary issue,'' said Bill Grover, a political scientist at St. Michael's College in Vermont. ``He's going to have to say, `We're going to balance the budget.' How?''

It's a question Tarrant is unable to answer. When asked what cuts Tarrant backs, his spokesman, Tim Lennon, declined to specify beyond ``pork barrel'' spending.

1. Dems need to latch onto that borrow and spend line.
Parrot it the way the 'pukes use the word "liberal."

2. ``Fiscal responsibility is part of our Republican culture,''
Ah yes! "A government that is as fiscally responsible as it expects it's citizens to be".

And how about... "A government that stays out of the lives of it's citizens"?!

If only we had real Republicans in power at least we could have some respect.

For that matter, we could use a few more real Democrats as well.

But hey, as long as the rich get richer. Right?

6. LOL- since when?
Their littlwe hero Reagan ran the largest deficits the country had ever seen up until then. Bush 1 didn't do much better....

4. This will be the undoing of the Repugs
Once they start fighting amongst themselves, it's all over. And that has already begun. True Republicans are shocked at the fiscal irresponsibility of this administration, as are true conservatives.

Real Christians are also disturbed by what they see from this administration. The lies, the war, the arrogance, all go against their traditional values.

Republicans up for re-election this year want to distance themselves from the scandals and the blatant illegal activities of the Bush Administration. The only way they can do that is to stand against them, and do what's right for the American people.

November is still a few months down the road, and we have to get through the DeLay scandal, the Frist SEC investigation, the Libby investigation, the Ney scandal, the missing White House documents, the outing of a CIA Agent by top officials, the Abramoff revelations, and so much more.

Americans are going to be FED UP with the Repugs bullshit by the time elections roll around. The cost of gas will remain high, seniors will be upset over the cost of prescription medicine, college students are going to be angry at the cost of going to college, Hurricane Katrina victims will still remember how they were abandoned by the Bush Administration, there will be more lies, more scandal, and more arrogance on the part of George Bush himself.

I think the Repugs will be sent a LOUD message that the American people aren't going to take their shit anymore. And we aren't going to stand for false election results, or not being able to exercise our right to vote, as we have in the last elections.

The Democrats need to make sure these things happen, get it together and WORK AS A TEAM - no more insulting votes, and Democrats MUST STAND UP FOR WHAT'S RIGHT AND SCREAM BLOODY MURDER IF THE MEDIA ATTEMPTS TO IGNORE THE WARNINGS.

Reid: Remember the closed session? You may need to do this more frequently this year, and we're still waiting for the results we were promised from the last one!

5. The problem is
that the Democrats DON'T stand up for what's right.

They roll over and let the Repukes walk all over them.

Every time one of them shows some backbone, the rest of them collapse in fear.

Fear of what, I wonder.

15. Yes, divide and conquer
There are going to be a lot of ugly Rethug primaries across the country this year. We need to be ready to take advantage of their weakened condition.

13. Not good...
Basically the RePukes can set up their own party as a political 'barometer' and define their own 'moderate' center, leaving the Democrats in political exile.

The ReThugs then create their own little 'dissent' movement to appear inclusive.
