...which I'm sure comes as a shock to us all.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) - The man who videotaped a sheriff's deputy shooting an unarmed Air Force security officer was arrested Friday for an alleged assault in Florida, officials said. Meanwhile, the wounded airman's family gathered outside sheriff's headquarters and demanded the deputy's arrest.

Amateur cameraman Jose Luis Valdez was taken into custody by Pomona police on a Dade County, Fla., warrant alleging he used a weapon to assault an elderly woman in Miami, said two federal immigration officials.

...

Carrillo also said the arrest of Valdez appeared to be "some kind of retribution on a good Samaritan who taped something that law enforcement didn't want the public to see."

The unarmed Air Force officer was a passenger in a car involved in a police chase. He was reportedly shot while getting off the ground AS DIRECTED BY THE COP WHO SHOT HIM.

I know this isn't the first time someone filming "bad apples" in the fuzz has gotten busted immediately thereafter. Anyone got examples?

1. Was the Dade County, Fla., warrant
issued before or after he filmed the police brutality?

2. Yeah, the Compton cops who assaulted the kid....
Caught on video violently slamming the 16-year-old onto the hood of the car; they soon busted the cameraman for something that, IIRC, was mostly bogus. We still kill the messenger these days, only in slightly more symbolic ways.

Cameraman in Calif. Airman Shooting Held

By GREG RISLING Associated Press Writer

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The man who videotaped a sheriff's deputy shooting an unarmed Air Force security officer was arrested Friday for an alleged assault in Florida, officials said.

The warrant came up during a routine background check when Valdez went to an immigration office for an interview to renew his alien registration "green card," according to the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because their agencies did not handle the arrest.

Valdez, contacted by cell phone, confirmed he had been arrested but said the only problem he had in Miami was an arrest for driving under the influence. He did not elaborate about that arrest, but said authorities wanted to send him back to Florida within 24 hours. "They want to get me out of California as soon as possible," Valdez said in Spanish. "They say I was involved in gunfire in Miami." He did not provide other details.

9. The behavior and attitude of the law these days are indeed
scarey. I can't believe the lack of outrage.

It appears from all the incidents of using stun guns and bogus arrests from around the country that the law inforcement agencies are marching lock step with the greatest crime cabal administration in the history of this country, known as George W. Bush.

6. If you haven't seen the video, you should.
Quite literally, the Air Force MP is sitting there on the ground, telling the cops that it's okay, he's in the military, and he's actually a cop himself. The cop who's holding the gun says to him "Get up! Get up!" The guy replies "Okay, I'm getting up." He leans forward to help push himself up with his hands--which were both visible on the pavement in front of him--and the cop fires three rounds into the guy, hitting in the chest and leg.

As if that weren't enough, as the guy is lying there on the pavement moaning and bleeding, the cops are telling him to shut up, and cursing at him. Gotta love that "serve and protect" spirit. I find it depressing that the "good cops" are still willing to protect guys like that.

24. You are in fact wrong about their education, in fact most are well

educated. Even a little suburb of Orlando, Ocoee, now requires all their officers to either have or be working seriously toward their masters degree.

Let's not tar an entire segment of our society with the obsolete brush of the past.

If you are serious about getting a real view of the lives of peace officers, I suggest you ask your local department for permission for a ride along. You will learn first hand that their very survival depends on maintaining a paranoid attitude toward those they encounter.

Imagine having to stay paranoid or die. That dichotomy sets up such stress that many don't retire, but punch out early by eating their guns. YOU try living like that for just a month and see if you are so damned judgmental after that.

Put yourself in their place for a moment. You've just made a traffic stop for someone who put someone's life in jeopardy by ignoring traffic laws. As you approach the driver's door, the thought flashes thru your mind: will the driver's hand be holding his license and registration, or a 9mm. This stress shoots adrenaline thru your body setting you up for the 'fight or flight' situation. And this happens to one degree or another every time you interact with the public. Imagine living like this day after day, and the only people who understand-really understand-how you feel are other cops. Is it any wonder there is an 'us vs. them' attitude among officers?

We live in such a sick society and expect our peace officers to shield us from the very sickness that our media promotes. The gun has become a staple for those who would do us harm and those who would be our political controllers.

Are all of them paragons of society? No. But the vast majority went into the profession with the idea of doing some good for those around them. Sure there are a few how are in it for the power, but most of them get weeded out eventually, or just get out of the job because they cant stand the stress.

It's awfully easy to judge someone, but a lot harder to understand them. Try it, you might like it.

13. Arresting the filmer is a way
of a sending a message that if you are going to film the cops assaulting someone you're going to end up in a trouble yourself. I live in the Los Angeles area and more often than not the good citizen who reports this kind of thing ends up in a mess. Yeah it's just coincidence :eyes: NOT!

18. Folks wonder why so many of us...
Edited on Sat Feb-04-06 07:39 AM by sendero
... do not trust the police. For every incident like this that is caught on film, how many happen that aren't? I'd guess somewhere between 10 and 1000.

This cop better get indicted, that's all there is to it, I don't care who taped the incident. The only silver lining is that even if the police don't do their job and prosecute this idiot, a civil suit will do the job of taking him off the force. But he deserves prison.

20. CNN just had an "expert" exonerating the cop
Edited on Sat Feb-04-06 01:13 PM by Julius Civitatus
Truly unbelievable. CNN just broadcast a segment covering this case. They showed the tape many times, with the cop yelling "get up," the airman saying "OK, I am getting up now..." then "Bang, bang, bang!!!"

Well, CNN brought in a "police training expert" saying the cop didn't do anything wrong, because there were other people talking at the same time in the background, and that may have confused the airman, who may have "mistakenly" heard "get up," when the cop didn't really mean it.

Stunning, isn't it.

The same "expert" then contradicted his own statement by analyzing the tape, then claiming that the cop "clearly" may have mangled his words. The expert said the cop was "clearly" trying to say "get down," and the airman may not have understood the cop well. This expert played the cop clearly screaming "get up, get up" then looked straight at the camera and said the cop didn't really intend to say "get up." Really. So "clearly."

Truly vomit-inducing, apologetic, biased, one-sided report from CNN, aimed at exonerating the cop and stunningly trying to convince viewers that when the cop said "black" he really, really meant "white."

Barf!!!! Shame on CNN, once again.

Edited on Sat Feb-04-06 02:16 PM by Julius Civitatus
In the broadcast, Dr. Berg tells you, with a straight face, that you are not listening what YOU are listening. It must be in your head. And he clearly shifts the blame from the policeman to the guy who got shot, Carrion.

Revolting:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5211306153925066798&q=KTLA

"It's not clear who is the miscomunicator."

"...he spoke correctly, but was misheard."

BULLSHIT!!! This is a whitewash. It's very clear the cop says "GET UP." You can hear clearly, and he says it several times.

No mention in that slanted report that the officer in question already had a HISTORY of POLICE ABUSE!!!
