Louisiana woman's last wish is benefiting Bush opponents

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Gertrude Jones didn't want flowers or cards when she died. She wanted President Bush out of office.

The 81-year-old woman's obituary asked that memorial donations be given "to any organization that seeks the removal of President Bush from office."

And people around the country are following her wishes.

In an online memorial book to Jones, dozens of people posted messages of support. Many wrote that they would contribute to the Democratic National Committee or one of the presidential contenders.

"When I saw the obituary, I thought, 'That's pretty cool. She's not here in this life anymore, but she's keeping going with something she feels deeply about,'" said Susan Crites, an online bookseller in Colorado who was moved by the obituary to add $10 to the approximately $350 she has sent to Howard Dean.

The campaign of fellow candidate Wesley Clark also has received at least 15 donations in Jones' name in Montana alone, said Angela Monaghan, Clark's campaign coordinator in Ramsay, Mont. (snip/...)

1. Maybe it's a movement!
These are the people who have seen everything, they know the truth and they want to save the world from the grave. So would I, maybe I should make a will.

5. Gertrude Jones - Website with guestbook
http://www.legacy.com/LegacySubPage1.asp?Page=FeaturedStoryArchive&Month=10&Year=2003

So many people have written wonderful tributes to this great lady.
If you care to read any, just put Jones in the search engine - left
side of page.

Of the two Gertrude Jones, she's the first. You can write her a
tribute if you like. I believe it's thirteen pages full now, hope
it goes up to thirteen hundred. She must have been an amazing lady.

6. When I wrote mine, there were only two others. I am glad to hear that
its being utilized to honor her and that the inscriptions
are read before being put up, to keep trolls out.

4. She's not the first to do this
Edited on Sun Nov-09-03 12:21 AM by LiberalTexan
Remember a woman up north (Wisconsin?) wanted Bush out, too. She used to throw things at her tv set when he came on. And, she called him "whistle ass".....remember that???
Her sons wrote in her obituary that folks should give money to kick Bush out as well. Looks like this movement is catching on.

Deceased Women agaisnt Bush! YOU ROCK!

15. I'm a 68 yrs old female
who totally understands Jones and Baron. We have watched as the BFEE is destroying everything good about our country. We were born into a generation that was expected to leave things better than we found them. We were impressive children during WWII and that shaped the way we think as Americans. We believe in sacrifice, honor, caring for each other, integrity in all our relationships and that it is far, far better to give than receive. It hurts my heart to see the country I love turning against all that is good and right in the world in the name of greed and arrogance. Old broads are very protective and nurturing. It is only natural that we would, even in death, reach out to save our country.

17. I'm 8 years behind you
but completely understand. The price we pay for giving birth, nurturing, and loving our children demands that we continue to protect them. In time, I've found that even though my own children are grown, this attitude is now so much a part of my nature, that I feel protective of any child.

And Bush is killing our children, and ordering them to their deaths. This is the reason I will work to insure that he loses in 2004, and that somehow, we can help our country heal, and return to sanity.

Mrs. Jones lived in the same nursing home as a former neighbor of mine. I'm going to make donations in her name to the Clark campaign and the DNC.
