Government recruiting for local draft boards
Draft Board recruitment
A call for people to sign up to serve on local draft boards is raising questions about the draft itself.
The appeal for volunteers to serve on local draft boards first showed up on a Defense Department website and was picked up yesterday by the Guardian newspaper in London.
While nobody is talking about re-instituting the draft for young people of draft age, the idea of being called to military service seems like something out of the history books.
The notice recruiting for local draft boards appeared on the Defense Department's 'Defend America' website. It calls for citizens over the age of 18, with no criminal record, to volunteer to serve the nation by joining the boards which decide which individuals would be tapped for military service and which would be exempted.
