NYS Senate leader Joe Bruno (R) calls for immediate withdrawal from Iraq! |
|
Yeah, Boy! NYS Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno basically stated the same thing that Murtha stated a short while ago. The USA Army has invaded, and allowed for the creation of a Iraqi government. It is time to go! http://blogs.timesunion.com/capitol/

1. A few months ago I would have been happy to hear this. |
|
Now my immediate thought is they want to free up troops for their new war in Iran.

24. Joe Bruno is not an interested party here. |
|
He's whoring it up because he's about to become the new NY STATE Senate Minority Leader this November after we finish cleaning his clock in November. Last I heard, the State Senate has no influence in US foreign policy.

3. But John Spencer (R), who wants to run against Hillary Clinton, |
|
Edited on Sun Feb-05-06 10:57 AM by Missy M
put the blame on Hillary for our troops still being in Iraq, one of the reasons being, she opposes the Patriot Act. It is still "Blame it on the Clintons" when it comes to conservatives.

Hillary deserves blame for the troops remaining in Iraq. Conservatives fear Hillary. I often think that the best liberal argument for curbing presidential power is that a liberal (like Hillary) will one day be president.

Looks like there is growing dissent from the Republican side of things.
I think this will become more common as we get closer to election time. Bush and Company will become more poisonous to those seeking re-election.
I believe the Republican party will split, true conservatives and Christians do not approve of Bush's agenda, it goes against everything they stand for. I think the true conservatives are horrified by what is going on, and they are waiting until the last minute to split away.
Could just be wishful thinking on my part, but I just don't see much of a future the way things are going now, especially if we have another terrorist act or get another war going. We are on Bush's watch now, just like we were on 9/11, and another terrorist act on American soil would do him in, and make him weaker in the eyes of Americans and Republicans.
Remember, he keeps telling us we must trust him to protect us. He's stripping away our rights and liberties in doing so, but another event would be proof positive he can't do what he says he can do.

8. welcome to DU. Very good analysis of this situation. |

I think that another terrorist attack will strengthen Bush's power. There really is no other alternative. I am unaware of any Democratic plan to avoid another terrorist attack. I think that the fear caused by another attack will only further erode our liberties.

15. I agree 100%. And long for the times of my youth when politics was a |

gentleman's sport. Debate was done with rhetoric, not mud slinging.
I also believe that, as I said four years ago, this regime will destroy itself by it's arrogance.
There are still many in the republican party who believe in the conservative values of fiscal restraint and staying out of people's lives. I think the election this november will return control of the congress to us (if the leadership acts like vertebrate creatures) and that will be the trigger that removes the neocons from control of the party. It will be a shock to the party, but no organization needs it more.

9. In upstate NY, the GOP realizes that homeland security is |
|
being ripped off to wage a war in the ME. The 9-11-01 attacks killed zero residents of the Town of Highland, NY. Gulf War II has caused the deaths of three residents (soldiers) of Highland, NY. These soldiers dies because they needed to go to Iraq without armor or international support. They went to keep Israel, and the world safe from Saddam's WMD.
The question becomes, "When can we leave Iraq? When will that nation be strong enough?" I suggest that the USA will not be comfortable leaving Iraq until there is a McDonald's and a Hooters in the Green Zone, Baghdad. I think there is already a McDonald's.

13. You make a lot of good points, but my favorite one is |
|
that the town of Highland, NY, has lost 3 residents to the Iraq misadventure, while having lost 0 to 9/11. If that doesn't say it all, nothing does!

10. Bruno is looking to keep the GOP in control of NYS senate |
|
The war in Iraq is seen as a Washington DC mistake by most upstate voters. I am sure that the Dems will take the governor's mansion and Hillary will be reelected. The question becomes, "Do Spitzer and Hillary have coattails?"
Bruno has chipped away at Spitzer and Hillary, both currently have no exit strategy for Iraq.

I don't see many seats changing yet.
Sue Kelly NYSCD19 is the most vunerable national gop from NYS. Hillary and spitzer are not yet doing much to unseat her.

Edited on Mon Feb-06-06 02:04 AM by Historic NY
along with Shelly Silver(D) Maj. Leader Assembly........these 2 prim-a-donas rule the roost and manage to look out for their own interests before those of the citizens of NY State. Spitzer as Gov. would be better served if both were to lose.
NY'ers know what was lost on 9/11 and since with the war. We know the war and 9/11 were not related. We also know that all the promises made after 9/11, few have been kept. Ny'ers will remember and never forget.

If the Republican candidate runs an aggressive anti-war campaign. Hillary is toast. Or at least, it'll force her to reexamine her position on the war.
