GOP Chairman: Hillary Shows Lot of Anger
Edited on Sun Feb-05-06 11:50 AM by IDemo
WASHINGTON - Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, a potential presidential contender in 2008, "seems to have a lot of anger" and voters usually do not send angry candidates to the White House, the Republican Party chairman said Sunday.

"When you think of the level of anger, I'm not sure it's what Americans want," said Ken Mehlman, head of the Republican National Committee.

Mehlman cited the New York senator's remarks on Martin Luther King Day in which she called the Bush administration "one of the worst" in history and compared the Republican-controlled House to a plantation where opposing voices are silenced.

"I don't think the American people, if you look historically, elect angry candidates. And whether it's the comments about the plantation or the worst administration in history, Hillary Clinton seems to have a lot of anger," Mehlman told ABC's "This Week."

Why must they always use this insultingly trite boilerplate bullshit? Even more important, why does it continue to work? Are we not smarter than that? Apparently not.

If I were HRC, I'd be hitting the "insultingly trite boilerplate" button like I was playing a videogame.

84. Frist gets mad? He always looks like he's about to cry
I saw George Stephenopolis almost reduce him to tears by pressing him about a lie about AIDS being transmitted through tears in an abstinence only program he supports. Frist would not commit one way or another on whether he agreed it could be transmitted that way, and Stephenopolis reminded him he was a doctor.

He got that "deer in the headlights" look Quayle used to get, only more like a whipped dog that saw another beating coming.

I hope that guy runs for president.

63. If it is, the Dems should quickly respond:
"you're DAMN RIGHT we're angry! We believe that the RULE OF LAW applies to EVERYONE, not to just a DEM President, but to George W. Bush, a Repug Pres, as WELL! We're very angry with the hypocricy of the GOP on this issue."

I think that point ought to be drummed home. If they want to play the "Dems or ______ is ANGRY," the response should clarify that there is something for every American to be angry about.

But she won't be the candidate - too many negatives for us and she's needed in NY as the effective senator she has become.

And once they discover we have picked another choice, they will shift their BS spin to that candidate.

30. anger is not an inappropriate response
it's not pretty; but it is not inappropriate for what has happened to people.

I guess the seniors being jerked about on Medicare have no reason to be angry.
Nor the folks who've been downsized;
Nor the folks down in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast;
Nor the women who are losing the rights to abortion and potentially the rights to be independent people;
Nor the government workers being made to lie on behalf of this administration;
Nor the folks in the security services who dont want to spy on their fellow Americans;
Nor the folks who are losing their pension and health care;
Nor the overstretched military, etc.
No reason to be upset whatsovever.

Let's take anger and own it -- it's righteous indignation!

Edited on Sun Feb-05-06 12:28 PM by Kierkegaard
First, I don't see any evidence to support his assumptions. Where is this 'historical' evidence on angry candidates? What is considered angry? How often do you have to show anger to deserve this label? She, along with every other reasonable American, has every right to be pissed off at these fascist *&#$^#*$#&'s. If she was complacent about their reign of terror, I would be even LESS inclined to support her.

I know the Punks try really hard to label their opponents with baseless, empty arguments that are dizzying in their stupidity to prevent them from being completely debunked, thereby hanging an albatross around that person's neck. This one is just too far off the planet. Maybe they'll drag out that playful puppy campaign ad again?

89. Amen-no Hillary
I don't really believe Hillary support the Iraq war, but she says that she does. I don't really believe that she is against marriage equality or "gay marriage" but she says she is. She is a typical spineless donkey that panders to the polls. There, of course, is a inkling of truth to this statement, which makes it difficult to combat. Hillary is not easy going on the public stage. She appears uptight and on guard and measured all the time. There are other women politicians who don't come off that way, like Ann Richards (yes, they smeared her too, but she was personable and electable). Someone with downhome charm is electable. Kerry had the same problem as Hillary, IMO. Good guy but not someone you'd have a burger with, like Bubba Clinton.

94. Fair thumb nail IMHO
So by my read of these posts am I too understand that most here accept that Hillary is an angry progressive? I mean my impression is that her every action is the result of having determined the most common denominator via poll watching of her voting pool be it word or action that will result in the most votes.(was that a sentence?)
Hill is calculating maybe but not exactly fulminating as I see it.

54. We should all be as smilie as Rove, as Sunny as Bush, as impish
as Rummy, as half-smiling as Cheney - and then the world will be fine.

Wait a second! They are in power. That is why we are mad. They refuse to govern. And play the geopolitics like some mad piano maestro where smashing every note - comes with a little peddle actions under the table.. to extend the pain of each action as long as possible. When they play flats - fires erupt in the middle east; sharpes, bombs explode civilians.

And Mehlman stands at the entryway to this disastrous and says - tickets - see a great show -tickets. Come on - it's fun!

56. The GOP is going to feel the anger of the American people
Come November, bet on it. People are pissed off at this group of incompetent, corrupt clowns. We're mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. If Sen. Clinton is angry, it is a righteous anger, fully justified by the machinations of this administration.

angry & lash out - and then get people to judge them on it.

Anger is an adult reaction to injustice and manipulation.

Apparently, according to the GOP, the only valid anger in the world is the anger Xtians on the right feel towards to gay people who they don't know.. getting married.

72. Republicans Have Reason To Fear Angry Democrats
Considering the crap that the right wing and its tools in the Republcian Party have pulled for more than the last decade or so, Republicans have reason to fear angry Democrats. A reckoning with these (people) is long overdue.

I hope that enough voters have noticed that they've been given the short end of the stick by the faction in power and give into their anger, too.

those on the right have with Hillary is she will fight back. She will not stand and take their shit. She will respond to them unlike the last two candidates we had. The problem the gopists has, they do not understand that about 60 to 65% of Americans are mad as hell too...Give me hell Hillary and win reelection and then you can decide whether you want to be President....One thing about it, and this is to all dems, if she wins the nomination at least we will have a candidate that will speak up and speak out often. I would really like to see this fight between her and any right wing they throw out there.....

83. I'm not a fan of Hillary's but the GOP is playing anger card too often
They used it here in California on the secretary of state who called diebold the liars and crooks that they are, they used it on Howard Dean, they are trying to use it on Elliot Spitzer, and now Hillary.

Someone should ask him if President Bush ever loses his temper, but hook his nuts up to a lie detector before you let him answer.

97. Don't forget Al Gore - he wasn't running for anything, but they
very successfully changed the perception of a long term public servant, who was criticised for things like being wooden, very wonky, serious and someone who delves deeply into issues (uhm, shouldn't most of these have been positives?) inot someone so sngry he was nearly insane. (obviously not true.)

They've had trouble capturing any anger that looks over the top with Kerry, so they simply portray him as ridiculous. Kerry has given plenty of angry Senate speeches, but as in 1971, he still looks and sounds in control.

The point is diminishing ALL possible Democratic leaders.

87. An old trick:
Call it "anger" and then question a person's stability next.

Talk about anger; what about all those RW'ers who justified the Iraq invasion as blood letting for 9/11?
Even though they weren't involved you still looked at the region, ignorantly, as all the same, you know, "just a bunch of ragheads".
Admit it you RW rascist nutjobs who read this (lurkers).

:eyes: More than two decades ago, I listened to some pasty-faced South Carolina man kvetch about how angry and unhappy feminists were. :eyes:

As usual, this is a case of projection. The GOP leadership attributes all virtues to itself and projects all its sins, evil, foibles, stupidity, etc., onto other people, preferably opponents. Remember, this is the party that gets what it wants and then seeks revenge. :shrug: Most recent case in point: Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ) threatening vengeance against Democrats following Alito being confirmed to the Supreme Court. SAY WHAT?????
