Chechnya bans Danish aid workers over cartoons

MOSCOW, Feb 6 (Reuters) - Chechnya's pro-Moscow government on Monday banned Danish humanitarian organisations from the shattered region in response to the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad.

Ramzan Kadyrov, Chechnya's acting prime minister, was the latest Muslim leader to condemn the cartoons, which were first printed in a Danish newspaper and have sparked protests throughout the Islamic world.

Protesters set fire to Danish diplomatic missions in Lebanon and Syria at the weekend and on Monday the Austrian embassy in Tehran was pelted with petrol bombs. Demonstrators threw stones at European Union offices in the Gaza Strip and pulled down the EU flag.

"As for Danish organisations which work in Chechnya, then we will no longer let them in because of this," Kadyrov was quoted by Russian news agencies as saying.

2. Their loss I guess
I'm sure we can find other countries who will be more than happy to accept Danish aid (I take it this also mean economic aid?).

6. Thinking about it, could it be a two birds with one stone thing?
I mean, on one side the Chechnyan Government scores some cheap points with the muslims world (and presumably the Chechnyan population), and on the other side they get rid of some people who aren't that shy about calling attention to the breach of human rights, which I understand that Chechnya has seen plenty of.

7. MOTS.
More of the same.

"We'll punish you--see, we just shot ourselves in the foot. And you made us do it by asking us to be tolerant on your terms, not on ours. It's your fault if anybody suffers from this, and we'll exact vengeance for the consequences of our act."
