Bush Wants Saudia Arabia to Ease Tensions

WASHINGTON — The Bush administration appealed Monday to Saudi Arabia to use its influence in the Arab world to help ease tensions sweeping the Middle East and western Europe over published cartoons of Islam's prophet Muhammad in Denmark.

While European and Muslim politicians around the world called for calm, the administration urged Saudi Arabia to take a leadership role to stem Muslim protests.

"Certainly the leaders of the Saudi government might be individuals who might fulfill that role," spokesman Sean McCormack said. "There are others in the region who also might fulfill that role as well."

White House spokesman Scott McClellan, meanwhile, issued a broad appeal to "all governments to take steps to lower tensions and prevent violence."

2. Why would they? Bush just threatened the Saudi Royal Family with
democracy and also with weaning the USA economy off oil.

3. And while they're at it, how about they 'open those spigots'?
You know, the things The Chump in Chief promised he'd 'jawbone' them into doing?

4. Saudi's influence?
The Saudi royal family is seen as a U.S. lackey to the rest of the Arab world.

Bush is seriously out of touch with reality.

And so is Rice if she let him get away with this ridiculous statement.

9. Lackey? I wonder.
I have always said that our most dangerous enemies are

a) Saudi Arabia
b) Pakistan

And not always in that order. Remember, 15 of the 17 hijackers were Saudi's. They fund terrorist organizations like Al Qaida, and sponsor madrasas.

10. The Saudi hijackers were not affiliated with the ruling royal family
They were affiliated with bin Laden, who would like nothing more than to overthrow the royal family.

12. The Saudi hijackers were Wahabbis..
Wahabbism is sponsored quite heavily by the Al Sauds to try and stabilize their regime (because it gives the people an outlet) and because it makes them look less friendly to the West. You really canm't easily draw a bright line between the Al Sauds and the Wahabbi schools and mosques (which appear, from what I've heard, to be the primary source of terrorists).

6. bush has all of those special pictures with him holding hands, kissing, and
otherwise nuzzling his Saudi friend... the core bush supporters want to believe he has some pull with the guy (other than a reach-around), so scotty is letting the base know that bush is "on the ball" as it were.

8. This is so stupid on so many levels ...
It would be kind of funny, in a way, if the Middle East goes up in flames - finally - because of some cartoons.
