Saddam intervened to fix port row
FORMER Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein personally intervened to help AWB overcome port delays while the wheat exporter was paying millions of dollars in kickbacks to his regime, an inquiry has heard.

It is the first direct evidence of the despot's involvement in AWB's Iraq deals to emerge at the Cole commission of inquiry investigating the affair.

The revelation came in an internal company trip report written by Dominic Hogan, a former AWB Middle East marketing manager who has blown the whistle on AWB's knowledge of kickbacks to the former Iraqi regime.
