China 'main threat to UK economy'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4686306.stm

The British people see China and India as the biggest challenges to the UK economy over the next five years, a Deloitte/YouGov survey has found.
In a study of public attitudes to global economic competition, 79% of 2,704 people identified fast-growing China as the largest threat to the UK.

India was seen as the main challenge to the UK by 45% of those surveyed.

A separate Deloitte report said the UK could fall from sixth to the 12th most competitive global economy by 2010

1. Somehow I'd like to see the UK turn against the bush crime family
it would be fitting and poetic justice for them..The UK is the only nation who has the wherewithal to go forward and reap the oil proceeds or to retreat and undermine the crime family's ambitious plans for their baby PNAC and that bastard child Iraq..

2. Is it the decline of the US and UK?
Or is it the growth of China and India?

Those two countries are only now starting to take a position on the world in line with their human potential.

5. Both
The U.S. has exported so many jobs to China and India, the quality of life is increasing there and decreasing here.

The U.K. has always relied upon the U.S. economically and instead of embracing China and India, they have been hostile to their growth.

Countries who have embraced China and India's growth (Germany, France, Indochina and Malaysia for example) have prospered along with China and India.

6. Please educate me?
I haven't had the time to educate myself on the growth of the Chinese and Indian economies.

How have Germany and France embraced the growth of China and India? Have they done it differently than the United States? What measures show Germany and France propering from China, while the United States suffers?

I've really been curious as to how the growth of China impacts Europe, but haven't known where to look to find out (in the most unbiased way possible).

11. There is no way you can be unbiased. Not if you care about your country.
US and UK economies depend on proper paying jobs to keep everything running smoothly.

Offshoring is the root problem here.

End offshoring. Economic crisis averted.

The problem grew over time. Therefore the solution can be made just easily.

If anything, stop buying the Nintendo gaming shit and have fun with people in the REAL world. Money still gets spent either way and we can all go on living. The difference is, no electricity is wasted trying to get fuckin' Mario to the top of the pipe so he can get jiggy with his magical, mushroom-shaped friend so we can all see just how "Super" he is. Neither is global warming heat induced so you can waste the electricity... (you can have all the "heat" you want with your real world friend instead.)

The pro-life solutions exist. Why won't anybody else bother mentioning them? Oh yeah. We want our status quo and eat it too.

8. Not an Expert on this Topic.....
But I would say it has not effected the lower end call center jobs as much in France and Germany because most Indians speak english. However I do think it has an effect on software and engineering since those jobs are not as language dependant. But in the bigger picture India and China do force down wages.

3. India too, huh. Anyone see the irony there?
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 01:46 AM by depakid
Actually, since the Tories and neoliberals in Labor support so called "free" trade policies- there's a double irony.

Actually, if I were the British, I'd be a little more concerned about the coming energy shortage. Parliament certainly is.

10. Maybe Nixon should not have gone to China.
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 04:54 PM by HypnoToad
Of course, people in 1976 didn't seem to mind that their new electric blankies were made in China...

Oops!

Still, all one need do is put some of these jobs back in the US and UK. Problem solved.
