Four U.S. Marines Killed in Iraq Bombings
Four U.S. Marines Killed in Iraq Bombings

By PAUL GARWOOD, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 45 minutes ago

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Four U.S. Marines died in a pair of roadside bombings in western Iraq's volatile Anbar province, the military said Tuesday. Another explosion killed two Iraqi civilians south of Baghdad.

Also Tuesday, two bombs exploded minutes apart near a square in central Baghdad, killing at least seven people and wounding about 20, police and hospital officials said.

The first bomb was in a plastic bag placed near a CD vendor's stand close to Tahrir Square by a man who fled seconds before the explosion at 9:55 a.m., said Capt. Mohammed Abdel Ghani

1. 2,257
The latest deaths take the number of U.S. military personnel killed to at least 2,257 since the Iraq war began in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count.

4. US troop deaths seldom make headlines anymore--usually announced
down into an article about the war. one by one they drop unnoticed.

8. Let's face it.......
dead troops are an afterthought in most Americans' lives - even the ignoramuses who think slapping a yellow ribbon magnet on their SUV shows how much they care about the troops.

I dare you to go around your workplace today and see how many people even know that 4 more troops died. I'll bet you come up lacking.

Until it's the lead in story on all news channels, the American public will not care or until there's a draft and their precious kin have it hanging over their heads that they may have to go. Then they'll care.

18. About those yellow ribbons....
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 09:22 AM by LibDemAlways
My local throwaway published a LTTE the other day from some guy who railed about yellow ribbons on the back of gas guzzling SUVs, and then completely blew it by suggesting we should really support the troops by putting our yellow magnet "ribbons" on the back of more fuel-efficient vehicles. WTF? People are idiots.

As for people not knowing 4 more troops died. They don't know. They don't care. Ask them who they like on American Idol or what they thought of the officiating at the Super Bowl, and they'll come to life. Disgusting.

36. I sadly agree
but our weekly Code Pink protest is getting larger every week. We had 40 people show up last week. The positive responses are growing as well. I know 40 people doesn't sound like a lot but a year ago there were only 5 of us. Not too bad for Orange County.
We make sure every car that passes in that hour and a half knows how many soldiers have died...and who sent them.

37. My brother lives in Tustin, and did some
precinct walking for Kerry prior to the 04 election. He was working from voter registration lists and was supposed to be calling on Dems, but some of the addresses were out of date and he ended up being verbally abused at some hard-core kool-aid drinker homes. It's still a pretty lonely life being a Democrat in OC - so 40 people and growing is good.

His 18 year old son is to the left of me and drove around with some inflammatory anti-Bush bumper stickers before he left for college in NYC. He saw the middle fingers of many, many OC residents.

The only way these people would ever see the light would be if their kid was drafted and was in danger of becoming an Iraq statistic.

30. Dying for lying
Can you believe how outrageous this is?
The military is being abused by madmen.
They are dying for absolutely nothing.
All of this was based on lies.
It's mind-boggling to me that we let this continue.

9. What will happen? Nothing. Absolutely nothing.
What will happen when we hit 4,000 or even 5,000?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

I hope I am wrong, but recent history bears me out.

10. i agree
remember all the press at 1000? 2000? very few people give a shit. I mention it all the time in the office or when out with friends - most seem shocked that it is that high. truly a national embarassment that the MSM would rather have a missing white girl on the news 24/7 than some of these heros

11. Not embarrassing, it's SICKENING.
I come from a (very progressive) military family, and it is disgusting how Americans' commitment to "The War Against Terrorism" (or TWAT as I call it) is limited to lip service and yellow ribbons, and nothing more.

Write and call your Congress Critters to demand better treatment for our Veterans? NO
Adopt a unit of soldiers and send them care packages? NO
Volunteer at the local VA hospital? NO
Buy a cheap yellow ribbon and feel better about oneself? Hell YES!

12. Pile them high!

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

21. RIP, Troops.
You died for the lies of a criminal regime.

Most of the people in your Nation won't know about, or care about, your sacrifice.

If a newsman puts your picture on the teevee, the right-wing will condemn him for being anti-American (e.g. Ted Koppell on Nightline).

The right-wing wants to hide your sacrifice, because it makes their fuhrer look bad.

And besides, some woman's hubby left his car at the airport.

:sarcasm:

I'm pretty glad I'm not the traitor, Kark Rove, but thank God I'm not one of his suckers in the press.

good folks on DU that keep us informed about the deaths of our servicemen and women in Iraq. We would never know if one only relied upon the major media.... Every time there is a soldiers death in Iraq, this is a terrorist attack on America. Thank you to all that care enough to post these updates. It reminds us all that life is only a vapor and we all could do just a little more to help someone or speak out on things one believes and knows is WRONG....
