Teachers, doctors protest budget cuts
Wars, hurricane recovery costs strain government finances

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush, constrained by wars, hurricanes and exploding budget deficits, has sent Congress a 2007 spending plan that is garnering howls of pain from farmers, teachers, doctors and a wide array of other groups with special interests.

Democrats, as expected, pronounced the Republican president's budget plan dead on arrival. But many Republicans were equally sharp in their reservations about the $2.77 trillion spending blueprint the administration unveiled on Monday.

Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pennsylvania, called Bush's proposed cuts in education and health "scandalous" while Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, said she was "disappointed and even surprised" at the extent of the administration's proposed cuts in Medicaid and Medicare.

Given the level of congressional frustration, administration witnesses, led by Treasury Secretary John Snow, were expected to face a tough sales job before various congressional committees on Tuesday.

8. I like him
because if you watch him on C-SPAN, he is very fair and actually says what he thinks, he doesnt tow the party line (at least in-session). Sometimes on the news programs he comes across more neo-con-ish than I think he is. He often times is a voice of reason in different hearings.

It is not great. Besides, his refusing to swear in Gonzales is very telling.

11. According to
the brilliance of Bush economics, wouldn't another deep tax cut for the wealthy reduce the need to make budget cuts like that? I mean, somehow, it goes from their tax cuts to those in need, right? Somehow???

16. "...disappointed and even surprised...."
Snowejob was "disappointed and even surprised" at GW Hoover's budget cuts in healthcare. Why, what rock has she been living under? This is another republinazi attempt at culling our population. Nazis get a woody everytime someone dies due to lack of affordable medical care.

17. what's the alternative? cutting the machineries of joy, the killing
industry? the military-industrial complex that Eisenhower so warned us about? the death-by-raygun freaks who take every last goddamned dollar and use it to annihilate babies in countries we'll never visit? the lovers of death who spread depleted uranium on the killing fields, eradicating the daisies and the rice? the bloody mechanisms of crunching bone, gnashing teeth, shattered skulls and blood and guts, who must have their pound of flesh?

no, never. bush (and any other president who wants to remain in power) would never cut the military budget. we need our death. it's the game everyone watches with glee... it's the one thing we can't live without. it's our fix in the morning... how many more dead? it's our fix at nighttime... how many more dead? death and destruction are the one thing we have the greatest appetite for... even if solar-cell shingles would be the one salvation we would need to sever the oil addiction that feeds our deathlust.
