Sessions' aide revealed on sexy Internet diary

http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060204/NEWS/602040347/1001

By Greg Wright
Montgomery Advertiser

WASHINGTON -- An aide to Sen. Jeff Sessions agreed Friday to shut down her Web diary, which included a provocative photo of her bare midriff in unzipped jeans, after the office heard about a complaint, the senator's spokesman said.

Stormie Janzen would not speak to a reporter Friday, but the blog indicated she was logged onto the site Friday morning during Senate business hours.

Michael Brumas, a spokesman for Sessions, R-Mobile, would not comment on whether Janzen was using an office computer or blogging on government time. The Senate conduct handbook states office computers should be for official business, but there are exceptions for personal use.

Brumas said Sessions' chief of staff, Rick Dearborn, was aware of the blog and was addressing the matter.

20. Oh, My God.
What hypocrites. Sessions was sounding all righteous the other day and this is the kind of gal he has working for him? Hypocrite.

Reminds me of Sadie Thompson and Alfred Davidson from the movie, "Rain."

"From now on you will be strong. There is to be no more fear. Radiant... beautiful... you will be one of the daughters of the kingdom. That's what you are now, Sadie, one of the daughters of the kingdom... radiant... beautiful."

...and used.

10. The story is from the Montgomery Advertiser
Not the National Enquirer. The story is not that she has a blog, but that Sessions made her shut it down.

I don't see anything wrong with the blog personally. None of Sessions' damn business.

26. Use their own weapons against them.
Liberals should live up to their own principles, and Conservatives, to theirs. Which means, don't apply tolerant Liberals views to this case. Use Session's own intolerance to his own house. Let them live in the true repression they preach, and see how long before they break.

29. It's news to me.
What will we tell the Republican children?

I think we need to get Lucianne to find someone to record phone conversations,
hold hearings, put Sessions under oath, and trap him with... well, you know the rest.

25. The point is don't draw attention to yourself or boss
when employed in the public sector. You can feel strongly that her life has personal aspects to it, but here's proof that her choices were flawed.

Sorry, but dropping your drawers while being part of the Republicant machine is hypocritical.

27. I don't get it, that's not porn
If my midriff looked like that I might show it off, though maybe not on a blog.

The blog did not comment on Congressional business but does appear to have been maintained on official time. If true, this would violate the Senate handbook of conduct which does not permit such private activity during hours of official business

I'd think during breaks you can use computers for personal reasons? Maybe not.

The Senate has a code of conduct? It precludes maintaining a web site, but not taking huge bribes from lobbyists?

31. Sibel Edmonds is better looking IMHO and has a better storyline...
Just what the rightwingnuts will jump on, yet another titty bar storyline while the really good storylines are ignored.

Hey Sibel, I know you might not like the idea, but in order to breakthrough the media imposed silencing of your information...maybe you could pose in Playboy ? I know I know, but if a T&A effort by the rightwingnuts to silence you can be made to fail, either writing a 'fictionalized' account and/or a promotional effort (like this congressional aide's) will bring out the truth !

35. She's told me personally that she's had MANY book and movie deals
Edited on Wed Feb-08-06 07:51 PM by calipendence
offered her. She doesn't need to be in Playboy if she wants to go down that route. Her whole reason for not doing these other "publications" (ESPECIALLY something like Playboy!) is that she doesn't want to give the appearance of someone profiting from her "fame" and that being her motivation instead of trying to give us the truth. We've already heard so much about Richard Clarke's and others' "book deals" as if that is a reason for us to disbelieve them. I admire her for holding the line and trying to keep her image pristine and not compromised, even it is harder for her to get her story out to us doing it that way. If we ever get through this mess and get rid of this criminal conspiracy, I almost will guarantee you we'll have someone like Salma Hayek playing her in a major Hollywood flick which will rival "All the President's Men"...

37. Salma Hayek ...great casting ! The whole idea about publicity
in getting her message out relates to defeating the 'gag order'. I still don't believe this country has a legal right to shut her up with an 'official secrets act' rationale. I think the gag order is ILLEGAL. It's merely a fig leaf protecting the LIHOPed 9-11 'Operation Northwoods' updated, just like the Iraq war is updated war plans for seizing oilfields in Saudi Arabia in '73 under Nixon, just jazzed up and thirty years later.

38. More from Wonkette
http://www.wonkette.com/politics/stormie-janzen/putting-stormie-to-bed-a-final-post-on-the-scandal-that-never-was-153535.php

Because Stormie was not blogging about her work for Senator Sessions, the contents of her blog were of no concern to his office. So what if some random Alabama constituent couldn’t handle a little thong? That’s the constituent’s problem, not Stormie’s. It’s not like the constituent was tied to a chair in Guantanamo, eyes taped open, forced to stare at Stormie’s bare midriff…

The “blogging while at work”/”misuse of government resources” argument is a makeweight contention. Every job, and especially every government job, has lots of downtime. If Stormie wants to use her downtime to do a little creative writing, while other Sessions staffers use theirs to buy crap on eBay, what’s the harm in that? As for the computer use, federal government employees “may use Government resources for personal purposes,” as long as the use involves only “de minimis” — that’s legalese for “really really little” — additional expense to the government.

Merely working for the government should not prevent you from expressing yourself on matters not directly related to your employment (with direct relation construed narrowly). To adopt a contrary rule would exert an unwanted chilling effect, deterring anyone remotely interesting, creative, witty, or fun from entering government service — which, if the current Congress is any indication, has already happened.

In the words of Judge Richard Posner, speaking from the perspective of a government employee, “We have free speech too, don’t we?”
