4. I hope everyone's okay, or that it's a false alarm
But odd, isn't it, that Superduperpresident Bush couldn't have protected a building right in Washington DC from this? Or did the terrorists suddenly remember that their calls might be monitored, and plot this through smoke signals?

If this were an actual attack, it would be a horrible thing. I don't appreciate the tone of the responses. Even if Bush WERE behind it, I would still hate it because it could potentially kill people. My hope is it's a false alarm.

43. They were all still there - now huddling in a parking garage.
I guess it is still Senate business hours.

But no one has any symptoms, so it's probably a false alarm. Might be a stupid Rove trick. But I think we should wait to jump all over it until we know for sure.

Maybe I'm too sensitive. I guess I remember how I felt on 9/11. Even if I knew before 9/11 that Bush and Rove were directly responsible for the attack, I still would have felt the same way about the people who died in the attacks.

Same thing here. If anyone (Bush/Rove included) killed our Senators, whether Republican or Democrat, and their staff, I would feel totally revolted. And I would feel terrible about people laughing about Rove when people were injured or killed.

OK, I'm too sensitive. That's just the way it is.

61. With this bunch in Washington, EVERYTHING seems
possible. I think it is to keep everyone off balance and to justify them saying-"See? See? This is why we need those secret wiretaps." And a war with Iran. And anything else they deem necessary to keep everyone frightened and quiet.

But that's just my opinion and I don't trust them as far as I could throw them. Tomorrow I wouldn't be surprised to see another terrorist video or audio tape.

But it could all be a coincedence.

76. key word -- IF
there's been too many terra-lerts in the past that have been false

if we sound "jaded" it's because we've become immune to the cries of "Wolf Wolf Wolf"

terra-lerts have been sounded when bush*'s numbers are taking a dive or a diversion is needed and the bushies need to ramp up the fear factor

currently bush* DISAPPROVAL average is at 53%, his SOTU flopped, Iraq is still in a mess, his budget is pretty much DOA, he has the Abramoff scandals hanging over his head, Plame Leak investigation is still going on, NSA spying hearings are not going his way plus there is a mid-term (s)election coming up

that there is a terra-lert doesn't surprise me, we'll have several more before november. He's going to need us all hiding under our beds wrapped in plastic and duck tape if he's going to garner any support for invading Iran.

It may be the Year of the Dog according to the Chinese calendar - but for us this is the year of the Booga-Booga.

Don't be surprised if we do have a real terrattack on US soil and it gets blamed on Iran

Sounds like info seekers have a clear field. My sig other who worked 2 years on Johnston Atoll Chemical Ammunition disposal site finds quite a few queer things about this. One is that it can't be a "biological" nerve agent. Its either a biological agent or a chemical nerve agent.

42. I wonder if someone was playing in their garden today and

http://www.bt.cdc.gov/agent/sarin/basics/facts.asp
What sarin is

* Sarin is a human-made chemical warfare agent classified as a nerve agent. Nerve agents are the most toxic and rapidly acting of the known chemical warfare agents. They are similar to certain kinds of pesticides (insect killers) called organophosphates in terms of how they work and what kind of harmful effects they cause. However, nerve agents are much more potent than organophosphate pesticides.
* Sarin originally was developed in 1938 in Germany as a pesticide.
* Sarin is a clear, colorless, and tasteless liquid that has no odor in its pure form. However, sarin can evaporate into a vapor (gas) and spread into the environment.
* Sarin is also known as GB.

62. Parking attendant Rudolph Giuliani called it an "errie" coincidence
to be in Washington for terra training exercises the day of the nerve gas attack, seeing as how he was in England for terra training exercises on 7/7 and New York for terra training exercises on 9/11.

(Actually I have no idea if RG is in DC but it wouldn't surprise me)

Security scare forces US Capitol evacuation

Wed Feb 8, 2006 10:30 PM ET

By Jeremy Pelofsky

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A suspected nerve agent forced the evacuation of a U.S. Senate office building late on Wednesday until tests concluded the vapor that set off the alarm was harmless, police said. Some 200 people, including several senators, were quarantined for three hours in a nearby underground garage while tests at the Russell Senate Office building determined they were never in danger.

The evacuated building is across the street from the U.S. Capitol where Congress meets. Tests on the material, detected in the attic, showed it was a vapor but not a nerve agent, police said, and no one was showing any symptoms.

"Our test results have been cleared and all the test results are actually negative," Sgt. Kimberly Schneider of U.S. Capitol police told reporters gathered outside the building at 9:40 p.m. EST. "Sometimes you might have a cleaning solvent which may set off a false alarm," she said.

"It was vapor," U.S. Capitol Police Chief Terrance Gainer told Reuters.

I heard the first blurb and went to bed rather than staying up to be sure our senators were unharmed. By the way, did they go to "red?"

82. Reminds me of the London Blitz
Upon being advised to leave London with her children, Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, Queen of England and wife of George VI, publicly responded thusly,

"The princesses will never leave without me; I will not leave without the king, and the king will never leave London," she said.

Now contrast this with our "Leadership" looking like panicked donkeys ever time a false terror threat is issued.

Not to say, that the WH would issue false threats to keep America in it's clenched fist or so afraid of the Terrorist Boogeyman, that we would forget our Consitituion...
