Bush to detail 2002 attack plot in speech
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - In a scheduled speech Thursday about the war on terror, President Bush will focus on a foiled attack in 2002 in which plotters planned to use hijacked commercial airplanes to strike the West Coast.

Bush has referred to the plot before, but White House officials said he planned to provide more specifics in a speech Thursday.

The president will speak this morning at 9:55 a.m. ET at the National Guard Memorial Building in Washington.

In an address last October, Bush said the United States and its allies had foiled at least 10 serious plots by the al-Qaida terror network in the last four years, including plans for Sept. 11-like attacks on both U.S. coasts.

3. And will he name names?
And list all who have been prosecuted? Why do I think not? Were this to be true, *Co would have dragged this out before now.

Well, we should be getting the details of this speech any moment now.

4. That's the trillion dollar question, isn't it?
It's one thing to say "We did this or that", but an entirely different matter to offer some proof like the arrests of the conspirators.

19. Nail clippers and vasoline?
This works? You have a 'proof of concept' model?

Ha...thought not, sir!!

I have been using twine and a salad spinner to keep elephants away for years...maybe that configuration will work with aliens where you are, but never work up here...needlenose pliers and WD40 are the industry standards you know!!

I truly lament the fact there is a lot of 'bad' science out there in the Alien Avoidance field and you sir are contributing to it!!!

If it weren't for that, I would have had my doubts about you!

You Sir, are at least a full generation behind with your twine and salad spinner. Next you'll tell me you're still using road flares :eyes: And I'll bet you haven't even mastered the popsickle stick flange maneuver yet.

29. Oh, the popsicle stick maneuver is so last century.

Current thought holds that the CD spin reflection is not only more efficient, but also more effective. Of course, that IS dependant on the particular galaxy and dimension from which the aliens originate.

And isn't it time we joined forces rather than competing? After all the very future of earth and earth creatures is at stake. It's taken us so long to raise these earthmen to current state. It would be a shame to lose the battle after all this time.

10. Specifics? Error may snag $39 billion spending-cut bill
A little off topic but....

It passed the Senate only after Cheney cast his tie-breaking vote.

In this case, according to the Senate aide, a "poor woman in the basement"
clerk's office typed in "36 months," instead of "13 months" related to Medicare
payments for oxygen tanks.

The Senate aide said the bill, as signed by Bush, contained the 13-month
provision intended by both chambers. The legislation would save $39 billion
over five years beginning this year.

17. It seems to me
that he has almost destroyed the meaning and horror of the attack on NYC. He has turned the date, Sept 11 2001, into one word and used it so repetitively that it seems meaningless to me by now--it is nothing more than a political phrase for gwb. It really is amazing that they still believe their fear-mongering will continue to work. I guess they've forgotten the story about the boy who cried wolf too often.

Why blow up the plane with shoe bombs if you're planning on flying it into Liberty Tower?

Did I miss something?

Were the hijackers going to take over the plane by pointing at their shoes?

22. You didn't miss a thing...
... I suppose someone could claim they had a bomb and gain access to the cockpit that way, but as I recall, Reid was arrested in late December 2001, and airport security almost immediately required x-raying of shoes. Odd that Bush is talking about 2002, in that regard.

So, where are the suspects? In custody? If not, why not? No charges? No arraignment? Are they hidden away in some secret gulag where no one can interview them?

Facts are names, dates and places and disposition of the case. Naming a known al-Qaeda member as the mastermind of an unsubstantiated act is not revealing anything, especially coming from a proven liar like Bush....

But, I wonder, how many people in the press, without real evidence, are going to buy this hook, line and sinker--just like they bought Powell's cartoon drawings of mobile biowarfare labs?

25. yes, it's broken alright
yeah four fucking years ago, can we at least be a little fucking relevant like last night's nerve gas false alarm.

and why exactly were 12 Senators and their staff held up in a parking garage for 3 hours if they may have been exposed to a non-contagious nerve agent? Was there concern of a bacterial attack?

oh, and the fucking obvious, if this was such a big deal why not mention it 500 times during the 2002 elections or the 2004 election's, instead we got Iraq 24/fucking 7. Hopefully some democrats repeat this 500 times for the next two weeks.

In an address last October, he said the United States and its allies had foiled at least 10 serious plots by the al-Qaida terror network in the last four years, including plans for Sept. 11-like attacks on both U.S. coasts. The White House initially would not give details of the plots but later released a fact sheet with a brief, and vague, description of each.

...

Under the plot, the hijackers were to use shoe bombs to blow open the cockpit door of a commercial jetliner, take control of the plane and crash it into the Library Tower in Los Angeles, since renamed the US Bank Tower, Bush said. In his remarks, Bush inadvertantly referred to the site as "Liberty Tower," and immediately afterward, the White House corrected him.

A speech only thought credible in the wooly eyes of the Busheep.

But this just so happens to "conveniently" come right before the 06 midterm elections - which happen to look pretty bad for Republicans.

30. L.A. Mayor Blindsided by Bush Announcement (more proof this is BS!)
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060209/ap_on_re_us/la_terror_plot

LOS ANGELES - Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said Thursday he was blindsided by
President Bush's announcement of new details on a purported 2002 hijacking plot aimed at a downtown skyscraper, and described communication with the White House as "nonexistent."

"I'm amazed that the president would make this (announcement) on national TV and not inform us of these details through the appropriate channels," the mayor said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I don't expect a call from the president — but somebody."

The mayor also suggested that some funding from the
Iraq war could be redirected to homeland security, including the protection of high-risk targets in Los Angeles. He did not advocate an immediate withdrawal of troops.

"I go to work every day knowing that we are a target," the mayor said.
