http://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/stories/2006/02/06/daily45.html?f=et79&hbx=e_duOracle Corp. will announce more than 1,000 job cuts Thursday as it digests its recent $5.85 billion acquisition of Siebel Systems Inc., according to news reports. Associated Press quoted an unnamed "person familiar with the plans" who said the cuts will be revealed during an afternoon conference call with industry analysts.
The acquisition of San Mateo-based Siebel by Redwood City-based Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL) closed last week, adding about 4,700 Siebel workers to Oracle's work force, which was at 51,000 before the takeover.
AP said the firings could include Oracle employees as well as Siebel workers, based on the way the company reduced its work force following 2005's $11.1 billion takeover of PeopleSoft Inc.
Oracle cut some of its own workers in that 5,000-job cutback.
