Gay Ex-Giant Alleges Bowl Discrimination

NEW YORK - Former Giants lineman Roy Simmons and celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred want an investigation into whether Simmons was denied access to the Super Bowl media center because he is gay and HIV positive.

Simmons and Allred held a news conference outside NFL headquarters Thursday before delivering a letter to the league asking it to look into why Simmons wasn't granted a media pass.

Simmons requested a credential for the center Feb. 2, three days before the Super Bowl. He also asked for two tickets for the game, which the Pittsburgh Steelers won 21-10 over the Seattle Seahawks, and a party.

He said he was told there were no more credentials available. But Allred, whose clients have included Scott Peterson's former mistress, Amber Frey, said the NFL indicated that it would give others passes after Simmons asked for one.

yeah, that must be it! though it does way he didn't ask for credentials till three days before the game. that won't help his case.

I say if the statistics are right 1 out of 10 players are gay but they will never come out. How many players are on a team? Multiply that by what 40 years of the football leagues.....

Tell me something I don't know...

Of course the league is going to turn their backs on gay players...can't ruin the ol real man image.....

He was at San Jose State University --

In one class I took from him he told us about his work with Professional athletes. And yes there are many gay men in the very macho sports. Very often, he said, the Pro athletes will have a wife -- who will play the role of trophy wife. I don't remember the percentage he told us, of Pro athletes who were gay but it was over 10%. I doubt the stats have changed much since the 1970. He gave us an empathetic insight into the gay male who had to play a role of heterosexual.

Dr. Ogilvie is one of the outstanding professors -- and I would expect that today the conservatives would be harassing him. He was one of the "liberal" professors who pissed of Ray-gun -- just by being liberal.
