Snogging many 'risks meningitis'
10 February 2006

Snogging many different partners can quadruple a teenager's risk of meningitis, a study has found.

Kissing with tongues enables the potentially deadly meningococcal bacteria to pass between partners.

The Australian researchers who carried out the British Medical Journal study defined multiple partners as up to seven in a fortnight.

Lead researcher Robert Booy said teenagers should change their behaviour - but accepted most would not.

Snogging? Must be a British term? I've never heard of it but that doesn't mean I'm not guilty.

24. "French kissing?" Didn't the GOP change that to "freedom kissing?"
About the time they changed "french fries" to "freedom fries" in the Congressional cafeteria...?

3. Weird word, for sure.
I like "French kissing" better. Snogging? Not very romantic.

16. But you have to admit that there is a certain amount of
onomatopoeia in "snogging" -- if you're listening . . .

5. Fascinating.
We always have an outbreak around here in December/January. Usually there is at least one teen involved, but more often it is younger kids (6 and under). I'm not thinking that crowd is seeing much snogging.

19. Reference: Romeo and Juliet, Act V (the unabridged version):
ROMEO

...Eyes, look your last!
Arms, take your last embrace! and, lips, O you
The doors of breath, seal with a righteous snog
A dateless bargain to engrossing death!
Come, bitter conduct, come, unsavoury guide!
Thou desperate pilot, now at once run on
The dashing rocks thy sea-sick weary bark!
Here's to my love!

Drinks

O true apothecary!
Thy drugs are quick. Thus with a snog I die.

Dies
Will was a randy sort, he was. (A little necrophilic, too.)

10. The Most Awful Family In Britain
God, I haven't heard that word since the days of "Monty Python's Flying Circus:"

Mr Garibaldi: I heard you in the hall last night, snogging away!
Valerie Garibaldi: I was not snogging!!
Mr Garibaldi: Sounded like snogging to me! I could hear his great wet slobbering lips going at yer...and his hand going up yer--
Valerie Garibaldi: We was talking, we was NOT snogging!!
Mr Garibaldi: Talking about snogging, I'll bet...
Valerie Garibaldi: If you must know, we was talking about Council re-housing.
Mr Garibaldi: Where to re-house his right hand, that's all he was interested in!
