EXCLUSIVE: Conyers Letter to Bush/Cheney About 'Authorized' Leaks!
EXCLUSIVE: Conyers Sends Letter to Bush, Cheney About 'Authorized' Leaks of Classified National Security Intel!
Ranking House Judiciary Minority Member Asks for Confirmation, Clarification of Reported 'Authorization' by Cheney and other 'White House Superiors' in Plame CIA Leak Case...

Inquires into 'Legal Basis' for Leaks Which Bush Has Previously Decried...

John Conyers (D-MI), ranking member of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee, has just sent a letter to George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, The BRAD BLOG, has learned inquiring into the "authorization" of leaks of classified national intelligence information.

The letter, published exclusively at BRAD BLOG, concerns questions about the revelations from National Journal yesterday that Cheney's former chief of staff, I. "Scooter" Libby testified to Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald's grand jury that he was "authorized" by Cheney and other White House "superiors" to leak such classified intelligence to the media.

The leaks, as reported by Murray Waas, were meant to discredit former Ambassador Joe Wilson's assertions that the Administration was manipulating various intelligence in the lead up to the Iraq War, and later, to justify the Administration's questionable use of pre-War Intelligence.

We post Conyers' letter in full, containing questions, asking for confirmation and clarification from both Bush and Cheney, below...

3. I hate to throw cold water on this, but....
It isn't specific about the Plame leak. I think they could make a case that, since they classify the information, they can leak it legally. (If there is evidence about a Plame leak, however, their goose is cooked).

5. They have to address that argument
before they can proceed. Conyer's is just dotting his I's and crossing his T's.

So I guess it's worth getting interested in, but it's not worth getting excited about the letter--yet. :)

used the standard, formal de-classification process. It doesn't just "happen" by decree. There are layers of procedure and review, and no single individual can do it alone, even if he thinks he's the Emperor.

10. God, I love that man!
It's just so sad that his letters are basically tossed in the trash. He's at least sending a message though, letting them know that SOMEONE is paying attention.

11. Oh, I hope his work pays off with the removal of *Co from power!
If election fraud doesn't ruin the 2006 election, I read that he will be head of the Judiciary. That would be such sweet justice!

I wish there were more like him in Congress. He is a true patriot, and a great American. He is always trying to protect our country, and the Constitution. Wouldn't it be great if we could clone him?

Check out this thread in GD-Politics. He's got a couple of them now. Aiming for Lincoln Chafee's seat in the Senate. Sounds like our type of guy! Needs us to help him spread the word and gain momentum.
