WASHINGTON - The government concluded its "Cyber Storm" wargame Friday, its biggest-ever exercise to test how it would respond to devastating attacks over the Internet from anti-globalization activists, underground hackers and bloggers.

Bloggers?

Participants confirmed parts of the worldwide simulation challenged government officials and industry executives to respond to deliberate misinformation campaigns and activist calls by Internet bloggers, online diarists whose "Web logs" include political rantings and musings about current events.

Stay the course.

22. No! The key is 13. They are dumb enough to overlok it because the christo-
fascists are supersticious and skip right over unlucky numbers. You must have missed that meeting. Agent Orange spelled it out in great detail. Just be careful. They are starting to read posts like these so it is important to conceal your intent.

16. Sounds ominous:
"Participants confirmed parts of the worldwide simulation challenged government officials and industry executives to respond to deliberate misinformation campaigns and activist calls by Internet bloggers, online diarists whose "Web logs" include political rantings and musings about current events."

I think they're more worried about deliberate truthful information.

18. outlandish rumors and random thoughts
my vote for most outrageous rumor is the http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=377018&mesg_id=380450">Iranian hanging of a teenage rape victim. just my personal fave of the last few days.

someone last night mentioned something that seems synergistic, referencing a star trek episode.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=381777&mesg_id=381777">here's the thread... it's a response to 'detention camp' threads.

"... came across a summary of the two-part episode "Past Tense." In it, the DS9 crew travel back in time to early 21st Century Earth (2020s) and are trapped in a "sanctuary" zone in San Francisco. This zone (and others like it) were created supposedly to help the homeless and unemployed, but they were really created to separate and contain people the government found undesireable. Doesn't that sound like something that actually could happen soon?..."

as i remember in that episode, 'the internet' was used sucessfully against the govt. maybe the threads about 'detention camps' were 'watched.' ("once... in detention camp...")

when i was in grad school in sociology, i never dreamed of having so much access to raw data -- and potential for interaction -- ethnography. these little blips of light can provide deep insight. the question everyone would like answered is, "now what?" this might not be the answer anyone wants, but i think it's a good time to read http://poetry.poetryx.com/poems/577/">Drum Taps.

19. I guess our opinions are now "attacks."
How many people does this administration pay to sit behind a computer to post "counter attacks" to the opinions of ordinary Americans?

Is this the most paranoid controlling administration in history?

20. This absolutely, unequivocally with no doubt in my mind...
proves that WE are the threat.

This has absolutely NOTHING to do with protecting any level of global internet security, and EVERYTHING to do with censoring the free flow of political information on the internet.

I too work for an ISP, and our servers were going up and down all day Monday.

We never did track down the problem. They spontaneously started working again.
