Reid sticks to guns on ties to lobbyist
Feb. 11, 2006

WASHINGTON -- A defiant Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Friday that he planned to continue speaking out on the capital's "culture of corruption" despite a new report this week tying his office to clients and colleagues of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Reid said that his authority as Senate minority leader would not be undermined and that he did not plan to step aside as the chief Democratic spokesman on ethics.

"I'm just going to charge forward like I took the lead out of my shoes," Reid said. "I didn't do anything wrong."

Reid repeated that he would not return "one penny" of $61,000 in political donations he has acknowledged receiving from Abramoff's clients and colleagues. He said it all was raised lawfully.

Reid said he was going to hold firm in the wake of a lengthy report published by The Associated Press on Thursday and reprinted by newspapers around the nation.

1. So, AP is surprised that the Senator from NV does not want
casinos to spread out of his state?

AP is surprised that Democratic Senators want to increase funds for schools in Indian reservations.

4. Give 'em hell, Harry! They're aiming at you 'cause you're our Leadership
of the Minority Party.

I believe Harry...FAR MORE than Rove OR Abramoff. By focusing on a FEW Dems like Harry, and making flase allegations too...they are characteristically drawing attention away from the MANY corrupty Repugs who DID accept LARGE intentional bribes from the Jack.

6. Reid's soundbyte should be "check my voting record - it didn't change"
Rather than just "I did nothing wrong" which all the repukes, even DeLay, routinely say. Tell us WHY, Harry - show the proof in your soundbytes, because the MSM isn't going to cover the evidence unless that's the soundbyte.

9. Like Reid got our back on the Alito filibuster?
To borrow a DLC saying, "I am keeping my powder dry" on Reid.

11. I'll take him
he's the best leader the Senate Dems have to offer. That's a mixed bag, but it's been a net positive so far.

In my ideal universe, we'd have someone better, but I'll work with the tools at hand.

8. Abramoff's clients are not facing jail, HE is.
And, HE never gave a dime to Harry Reid.
