33. Jackie looks like a self-satisfied, smug, eminence gris in that shot
Looking on from a distance, like a well paid puppeteer....

The photographer got a much better shot than he knew--talk about a "grip and grin" that comes back to haunt ya...this isn't your standard shot, where they actually line people up like school photo day, and the Prez comes out, and stands in front of the desk--those formal shots ARE what they ARE. TWO SECONDS, NEXT!!!!! Move along, hurry up, we got twenty people here, NEXT!!!!!!!!

This shot, with Karl smiling, and Jackie smugly looking on, and all of the other dweebs grinning, has the look of much more PERSONAL action to it--there was some INTERACTION between the Pres and the clowns in that room; make no mistake!

17. The picture was taken by a White House photographer.

......The picture was taken by a White House photographer.

The president's spokesman, Scott McClellan, said Friday that the presence of the lobbyist and Mr. Garza at the meeting, which was organized to thank a group of state legislators who supported the president's 2001 tax cut program, did not suggest that Mr. Abramoff had any special influence at the White House. Mr. Bush has said he cannot recall having met Mr. Abramoff, though the White House has not disputed accounts that Mr. Abramoff came to the White House on a number of occasions.

Mr. McClellan said that Mr. Abramoff's name had not appeared on the invitation list of the May 2001 meeting and that it was unclear how the lobbyist had entered the White House grounds. A spokesman for Mr. Abramoff had no comment on the photograph or on his contacts with Mr. Garza.

It is not clear how Mr. Abramoff might have gotten Mr. Garza included in the president's meeting. White House records show the meeting was also attended by Grover Norquist, a friend of Mr. Abramoff's who is a leading conservative strategist and president of the group Americans for Tax Reform, which was helping to rally support for Mr. Bush's tax cuts, the issue that was the reason for the meeting. A spokesman for Mr. Norquist declined comment on Mr. Norquist's involvement in the meeting.

12. I love the article too
Seems there was yet another person within feet of the president that they can't seem to find a record of them, don't know them, never met them. How does a male prostitute posing as a journalist and a con man posing as a lobbyist get within a few feet of the president when you have to almost have a DNA test to get in to hear him speak anywhere else in the country? How do they have no record of this guy getting into the building when he had been known as a member of the transition team?

And he talks about National Security? They obviously don't know how to secure anything besides a campaign stump speech location!

I call BULLSHIT Scotty.

21. Abrmoff says Bush shook hands. A. has no comment about photo.

from Time online above:

Talking about the photo, Abramoff has told friends, "I was standing right next to the window and after the picture was taken, the President came over and shook hands with me, and we chatted and joked." A photograph of that scene as described by Abramoff was shown to TIME two weeks ago. Abramoff's lawyers have said that their client has long had photographs of himself with Bush, but that he has no intention of releasing any of them. Abramoff would not comment on the matter.

23. Think Progress: BREAKING: First Abramoff/Bush Photo Published
Edited on Sat Feb-11-06 04:45 PM by Pirate Smile
BREAKING: First Abramoff/Bush Photo Published

In the picture, President Bush is talking with Cheif Raul Garza of the Kickapoo tribe of southwest Texas. The New York Times, which published the photo, reports:

The picture leaves unanswered questions about how Mr. Abramoff and the tribal leader, whom he was trying to sign as a client, gained access to a meeting with the president on the White House grounds that was ostensibly for a group of state legislators who were supporting Mr. Bush’s 2001 tax cut plan.

The photo of Abramoff with Bush at a private meeting undermines White House claims that any meetings between the two occured at “widely attended” holiday parties. The White House has confirmed the picture’s authenticity.

UPDATE: Time Magazine has more details on the meeting:

Talking about the photo, Abramoff has told friends, “I was standing right next to the window and after the picture was taken, the President came over and shook hands with me, and we chatted and joked.” A photograph of that scene as described by Abramoff was shown to TIME two weeks ago.

The TIME article also features a color version of the photo where Karl Rove is visible. It leads with a discussion of the Abramoff emails, first published by ThinkProgress.

Doesn't the White House keep a record of who attends its meetings? I'd think they do that for security purposes at the very least.

Now we know why Bush said he "couldn't remember" being "photographed" with Abramoff outside of the holiday parties--he was smart enough to realize that he couldn't flat out deny it.

48. Maybe Susan Ralston, once Abramoff's assistant, then Rove's, answered
also to Norquist, let the Indian Chief and Abramoff in after Abramoff called Ralph Reed who had a direct line to Susan, who also worked for HIM. Rove probably okayed it, and no one told the President, who never seems to know what is going on in his own WH, or anywhere else for that matter.

That's how they had it set up ~ from the emails it was apparent that when Abramoff wanted something, he called Ralph Reed, who called Susan Ralston, who then checked with Norquist as to whether it was okay to tell Rove. Norquist, Abramoff, Reed and Kidan were all Young Republicans in college together.

Seems they turned the WH into their personal money-making pyramid scheme. Talk about bringing back 'honor' to the WH!!

49. This is not incrminating.
We already knew they had met a dozen times or more. Eleven more photos of them in the same room, especially with crowds of others, doesn't make them co-conspirators. Who cares whether they were friendly, or even knew each other?

It's the details of their professional relationship which will damn them, and these still remain murky.

53. Photos don't really do that.
Not a picture of Abramoff in the same very large room with a big crowd, not even looking at each other.

What's incriminating is the White House effort to hide the pictures--that says that there's a boatload of corruption that photos couldn't begin to show. Find me a shot of Abramoff leaning over Bush, showing him where to sign his name; this would hint at the really criminal relationship.

54. And the RW spin begins
One RW site has this posted already.

Four books of widely varying quality have been published on the Gacy case. Very good is Terry Sullivan's Killer Clown (1983); good is Clifford L. Linedecker's The Man Who Killed Boys (1980); poor is Tim Cahill's Buried Dreams (1986); and dreadful is 29 Below• by Jeff Rignall and Ron Wilder (1979). As is often the case, the worst book is the most valuable to the collector, on the principal that having failed to attract a good publisher, it found the smallest market and remains the most difficult to locate. And no one can blame Rignall for attempting to exploit his role as one of the few boys who had been molested by Gacy but survived his ordeal. (Gacy left another surviving victim. First Lady Rosalynn Carter had to suffer the embarrassment of a widely published photograph showing her clasping hands with him two years before his arrest, when he was serving as a Democratic precinct captain.)
