Cartoon fury could spin out of control: Rice (Reuters)
(More proof the our Federal Government is either not paying attention, or just out of touch with reality.)

Cartoon fury could spin out of control: Rice

Sun Feb 12, 2006 03:15 PM ET

By Jim Wolf

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said on Sunday that anger sparked by cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad could spin out of control and urged governments, especially Iran and Syria, to "act responsibly." "If governments do not act responsibly, we could face a sense of outrage that spins out of control and particularly if people continue to incite it," she said on the ABC television program "This Week." "It is well known that Iran and Syria bring protesters into the streets when they wish, to make a point," she said.

Rice, in a separate interview on CBS' "Face the Nation," said Washington had lodged a complaint in which they told Damascus, "these are incited riots, and they need to be controlled." "The Syrian and Iranian governments have very good control of these things," Rice added.

She mentioned a plan in Iran to retaliate for the cartoons, first published in Denmark in September, by launching a contest to caricature the Holocaust in which six million Jews were killed. "I would like to have heard from the Iranian government ... not a threat to start publishing Holocaust cartoons, but rather to say that people should not resort to violence," she said.

"If that's not incitement, I don't know what is," Rice added on the CBS program. She said she personally found the cartoons offensive. At issue, she added, were issues of both press freedom and press responsibility.

7. Welcome to DU Spankydem!
:hi:

Kindasleezy is a bit slow-witted for someone who is supposed to be "so smart".... and really - shouldn't she be trying to use diplomacy to avert a war with Iran instead of inserting the US into this situation?

:dunce:

my bad - war with Iran IS what Kindasleezy's boss wants, and what Deadeye Dick wants, he gets.

Unlike here in America where you have to sign a LOYALTY OATH before seeing a Bush/Cheney rally. :eyes: She is smart enough to know what is going to happen next, they cried wolf one to many times.

6. 'scuse please, condi? a minute of your time? ever consider the fact that
we've just killed a hundred thousand innocents in Iraq, and we're occupying that country, and tensions are just a bit pent-up?

ever consider that perhaps our oil policies might have a little something to do with the reason it's such a powder keg over there?

ever stop to think that maybe it's not really the cartoons?

8. Condi and the Bush Crime Family can complain about governments
all they want, but there are still thousands upon thousands who will show up for protests over this. That is a lot of people with hatred towards the West regardless about any country stoking the flames.

...Middle-East problem, is like throwing a full can of Gasoline into a bond-fire.

I still haven't figured out what they were trying to achieve with that appointment.

14. this is what our SOS has been reduced to
spouting off on social issues and wagging her finger at other governments. this bobble head (I just saw a clip in passing on the teevee where she bobbled her head up and down, then back and forth, I suppose she thinks it makes her looks really really important and knowlegable--she has learned that bobbling her head imparts a sense of being right up there on all issues) thinks all she has to do is market, and market some more and she will come off as really, really effective. She is a non-effective whose role has been neutered. In favor of being right up there as a black woman, she has chosen to remain the bobble headed SOS--hey, at least she gets teevee time to spout nothing at all.

22. no really...and guess what Invading Iraq
and NOT finding the weapons of mass destruction aren't helping either, oh and by the by, saying we are going to leave but not leaving is adding salt to the wound. Oh and since we are on the subject super massive foreign policy mis-calculations, Invading Iraq to sit and squat on their #1 resource to deny it from the Chinese or whatever, and/or using Iraq as a launch pad to keep Iran in check or attack at a time of our own choosing is so economically and militarily stupid, generations of Americans will pay for your stupidity.

23. Well... Talking about cartoon,
this whole administration is in fact cartoonish. Which includes characters such as her. The arguments, and I men *all* the arguments are and have been worthy of a cartoon and destined to an audience, massive apparently, who read, when it can, cartoons. This is Beavis and Butthead at the WH.

27. Covering for the opposite
The governments ARE controlling the response, Ms. Rice. It would be better if the simmering deep rage in the Islamic world were to come out now in prevention of the next US adventure than later when it will be accompanied by terrible violence and another kind of escalating action completely. It is not the armies or the corporate boards or throne rooms of the ME that the danger lies but in being so arrogant as to miss the fact that an entire population of believers can world riot to a purpose other than expressing simple outrage over one insult.

And there goes the oil and all the hegemony games and all the alliances and all the markets.

And who is laying the catastrophic foundation for this threat? The Bush team in its imperial belligerence and incompetent hypocrisy its looney tune hate goons, not the silly sparks of a European cartoon.
