Gay wedding ends up in cells
Moslem fundamentalists in the mideast might as well be clones of Christian fundamentalists in America.

http://www.news24.com/News24/World/News/0,6119,2-10-1462_1879726,00.html

Dubai - A United Arab Emirates court has jailed 12 men who were arrested after being discovered preparing for a gay wedding, but acquitted another 14 defendants, an official said on Sunday.

"Eleven men have confessed to practising homsexuality.

They were sentenced to five years in prison (for homosexuality) and one year for obscenity," said the official.

"Another man was sentenced to one year in prison for obscenity, but was acquitted of homosexuality charges... while 14 others have been released after being found not guilty," he said.

10. let's play guess the law

http://supct.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/02-102.ZS.html

Responding to a reported weapons disturbance in a private residence, ... police entered petitioner ...’s apartment and saw him and another adult man, petitioner ..., engaging in a private, consensual sexual act. Petitioners were arrested and convicted of deviate sexual intercourse in violation of a ... statute forbidding two persons of the same sex to engage in certain intimate sexual conduct.
Hmm. Was that Adam and Ali, arrested by the Tehran police under an Iranian statute?

Nope. It was Mr. Lawrence and Mr. Garner, arrested in Houston under a Texas statute.

1873, maybe? 1924?

Noop. Not sure of the exact date, but your Supreme Court didn't quash the convictions, and strike down the law, until 2003. As recently as 1986, your Supreme Court had said: "The Constitution does not confer a fundamental right upon homosexuals to engage in sodomy."

Damn those ignorant savage Muslim fundamentalists. When are they going to join us in this, uh, decade?

11. I won't excuse the court's actions on this...

While the UAE laws prohibit homosexuality, many homosexuals live and even live together here. The culture is very open within an semi-underground context. I know many gay and lesgian people who live, work, and love it here. It is a kind of don't ask don't tell kind of thing.

Like many things in the UAE, homosexuality only becomes troublesome for the authorities when people flaunt or promote the fact of their sexualtiy. This was a (mock?)large qay wedding complete with transvestites held in a public space (hotel/resort).

These guys shouldn't be jailed...

You should know that in cases like these, defendants often spend a very short time in jail and are then deported back to their home countries.

Hey, but shouldn't it work both ways... A number of people were calling for Muslims to cool it because the West, or Denmark has free speech written into their laws. So, the world must follow the laws of that place. Well, homosexuality has always been against the law in the UAE. All of these people knew what the laws were.

And you know what, NEITHER position is right because it does not respect human rights...

13. WHAT?? I thought the Arabs stoned all homosexuals to death.
This can't be right.

Methinks we are getting a lot of inflammatory stories lately about Arabs and Persians. Methinks it is done to serve the interests of our Protector Invader-in-Chief.
