Demonstrators Urge Halt To Anti-Gay-Marriage Bills
It's about time people took to the streets over these bigoted, Jim Crow, Republican bills and referenda.

Hopefully, this will catch on across the country!

Waving signs emblazoned with slogans including, "How does my marriage threaten yours?" hundreds of gay rights supporters came to Annapolis Monday night to urge lawmakers against pushing legislation to ban gay marriage in the state's constitution.

Rally organizer Dan Furmansky, executive director of Equality Maryland, said a constitutional amendment banning same-sex unions would codify discrimination.

"It says we are not part of the provisions of the constitution; it says we are not citizens of the state of Maryland," he said to a cheering crowd enduring subfreezing temperatures in front of the State House. "And no matter what one thinks about the recent decision in the judiciary, it is not morally OK to change a constitution to say it applies to everybody but one group of people."

Furmanksy was alluding to last month's ruling by a Baltimore Circuit Court judge that Maryland's 1973 law defining marriage as between a man and a woman was unconstitutional and discriminatory. The case was appealed by the state attorney general's office and will be decided by an appeals court.

2. Protesters this weekend at the St Paul Cathedral

"As the Roman Catholic archbishop honored hundreds of married couples inside the Cathedral of St. Paul on Sunday, more than 150 people gathered outside to protest his support of a state constitutional amendment that would ban gay marriage.

"Today we come together to celebrate … the vocation of marriage between one man and woman,'' Archbishop Harry Flynn said during the Mass. "Today that vocation is under challenge, even under attack.''

The archdiocese has celebrated an annual Mass honoring marriage for the past 25 years. This time, though, protesters attended to oppose efforts by the state's Roman Catholic bishops to promote a constitutional amendment, destined to be a key issue in the upcoming state legislative session.

"We … are outraged by the position and tactics taken by the Minnesota Catholic bishops in actively endorsing and advocating for the discriminatory and anti-Christian marriage amendment, both from the pulpit and through official Catholic publications,'' said David McCaffrey, one of the protesters.

5. It's about control.
If they can enslave gays by successfully taking their rights away, then they can control them.
