Article defamed Habib: jury

"Former Guantanamo Bay inmate Mamdouh Habib was defamed by a Sydney newspaper article which suggested he was a liar, a jury has found.

A NSW Supreme Court judge will now hear defences in the case and determine whether Mr Habib is entitled to compensation.

The verdict came after Mr Habib sued Nationwide News over articles published in The Daily Telegraph and The Weekend Australian in 2002 and 2005, which he said defamed him.

Mr Habib's barrister, Clive Evatt QC, had argued that the articles contained 24 defamatory imputations. "
