Operation 'Brand Iron' leaves mark on remote Iraqi villages
As Marines swept through the area, they gathered information about each family and community. Having information on each area can help Marines in future to keep terrorist influence out of these small, vulnerable communities.

The people here live very primitive at best,” commented Murray, a 1990 Wickenburge High School graduate.

“The biggest thing is just being out here,” said Lance Cpl. Enrique Mendoza, a Chico, Calif., native and vehicle security member for the company. “It shows them that we are willing to come all the way out here to look for bad guys.”

“Besides getting a vehicle stuck, keeping warm is one of the biggest battles out here,” commented the 33-year-old vehicle commander.

1. They are alphabetical
they use two letters, and come up with names that start with those letters.
Each year they start over with AA, Brand Iron was BI.
The operation before Brand Iron was BH, probably Bogus Horseshit or some name name like that.
After Brand Iron will be BJ, thay'll call it...

3. "The people here live very primitive at best..."
What gives any member of the U.S. military the right to pass judgment on the Iraqi people? Too bad the Marines don't give their personnel any history lessons about the region they're occupying - the very cradle of civilization with thousands of years of human history and significant accomplishments in math, science, and legal theory dating back to the ancient Mesopotamians. "Primitive" my ass.

4. To defend the Marines
I have crafted many a brief for Oh-3s on the history, culture, religious differences, ethnic, tribal history of the area.

But, the situation over there is fairly desperate, in terms of infrastructure.

Of course, some Marines are just cock-suckers. They tend to be a cross section of the American Public, excluding of course our *betters* in the Congress, Executive Branch, and their extended families who grow wealthy off the blood of the poor Marines sent to do their bidders. Sorry Oh Masters of War, I doth forget myself...

8. The Iraqis are "THEM"
And "THEM" is the enemy. "THEM" is nothing but primitive, savage sandn*****s that are tying to kill "US" and don't DESERVE ANY CONSIDERATION. Take it to the bank.

9. Interesting
That the Marine you speak for from the "them" quote is hispanic. Then you put racist words in his mouth when he was expressing that they are trying to help "them."

Brings to mind another quote. "We have seen the enemy, and they are us."

5. Is that headline supposed to make us feel better?
I thought for sure it would be more tales of brutality and death.

7. Pretty Primitive
It is pretty sad to fly out over the country and see the conditions some of these people have to live in. People living in huge public dumps, living off of the waste of others. Entire villages. And yet we are, in the words of a new Major in our battalion, building "the biggest, most expensive embassy ever" in the IZ as we speak. This is to "leave our stamp on democracy."

What do you suppose something like that is costing U.S. taxpayers? How many millions are going to construct a building that virtually no Iraqi will ever see or get any use out of? The rebuilding of this country has not even started to take place and they are working night and day on a state of the art embassy. Un-freaking-believable.:banghead:
