The son of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon Tuesday was sentenced nine months in prison and fined for violating campaign-funding laws, reports said.

Omri Sharon was convicted of concealing $1.27 million in illegal donations to his father's 1999 campaign for the leadership of the Likud Party.

Israeli politics must be emptied of corruption, wrote Judge Ena Bekenstein of the sentence imposed Tuesday.

These are very serious offenses, and even if he committed them out of respect and admiration for his father, he should not have committed them, the Jerusalem Post reported of the judge's sentence

I don't hear the same level of outrage that I heard about Kofi Anan when his son was being accused of having a role in the oil-for-food program. And Kofi's son not only was exonerated but won a hefty liable suit against a newspaper for smearing him.
