Man shot by Cheney in accident still stable

Associated Press

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The 78-year-old lawyer hit by a shotgun blast from Vice President Dick Cheney in a hunting accident remained in stable condition and has a normal heartbeat, a hospital official said Wednesday.

Harry Whittington of Austin was listed in stable condition Wednesday, a day after suffering a mild heart attack when a shotgun pellet in his chest traveled to his heart.
"He's doing extremely well," said hospital administrator Peter Banko.

1. Not as well as he was doing before a drunken Dick Cheney shot him, though.

2. I hope Mr W is doing fine but:
he is 78, been hit by a shotgun @ close range, has shot in his heart & liver, had a "minor,"
heart attack, and is being kept in the ICU.

:nuke:

5. Not to worry...Cheney is proof positive that one doesn't need a real heart
to continue to function. There are enough mechanical parts to keep all the GOP automatrons in motion. Cheney reminds me of Captain Hook's alligator nemesis....you can always tell when he's nearby...tick-tick-tick-tick....

8. The doctors should be struck-off....
Unless Whittington himself DEMANDED to be released from ICU despite vigourous warnings, the Doctors treating Whittington should lose their license to practise medicine, as it appears they may have endangered his life for political reasons. Check out this post I made a couple of days agao:

These two sources make it clear that it is highly possible that the wounds suffered by Whittington are a lot more severe than is being reported. Apparently it is possible that birdshot, especially the smaller ones used on quail, can enter the circulation and be sent all over the body, even from essentially non-life threatening wounds. One report I read had a young man hit in the neck end up having a foot amputated because a pellet travelled down into his ankle, cutting off the blood supply. Another was killed when blood supply to his liver was cut off.

So it is possible that even if the injuries themselves were rather minor, the fact that the pellets are so small can result in a far greater theat to life if any of the pellets enter the bloodstream.

This was before his heart attack, and I'm pretty sure it was even before the Doctors moved him from ICU flippantly responding "I don't think anyone has even bothered counting" when asked how many pellets were still inside Whittington's body. If 5 minutes on Google could let ME know that leaving such small birdshot inside the body was extremely dangerous and life threatening, why did these DOCTORS not know that?

I would think it is obvious that moving around, and thus raising blood pressure, would make it even MORE likely that a pellet would move. Yet the doctors make the excuse that they think not enough time had gone by for scar tissue to form, locking the pellets in place. Once again at the time they moved him out of ICU the doctors made comments on how quickly Whittington healed. This in my opinion showed that they were try to justify moving him so soon, despite there being between "6 and 200" birdshot pellets still embedded in his body. By the way, you may not have counted but SURELY even a quick look at an X-Ray should be able to show a difference between 6 and 200!

I think this may turn into a major scandal - not becuase Cheney actually shot someone, but because the victims life was put in danger for the purposes of political spin.

17. YES! I just read the thing about the pellet in his liver!
What the hell?

But he's sitting up doing "legal work" according to that press conference earlier... AND he's just in ICU for "privacy reasons"

UNREAL!

And don't try makeup or old photos of Whittington, or Adobe Photoshop.

20. Yeah, I believe this
He was doing very well before the minor heart attack/cardiac event, and now, a day later, he's doing extremely well. I've heard those minor heart attacks do wonders for your health.

Wasn't he staying in the hospital for another week, also, or did I miss something?
