US Comments on Alleged New Abu Ghraib Photos

US officials have given their reaction to the release by an Australian television network of photographs and video clips it said were previously unpublished images of the alleged abuse of Iraqis held in US military custody at Abu Ghraib prison.

US State Department legal advisor John Bellinger told reporters on Wednesday that the decision had been made not to release further photographs from the prison in Iraq.

"The US government felt that it was better that the photographs not be released, not because that there was anything to hide,¡ but simply, that one, that we felt that it was an invasion of the detainees themselves to have these photographs come out and in addition it would simply fan the flames around the world and cause potentially further violence. "

He doesn't think there was anything to hide? If there is nothing to hide, why would they fan the flames around the world and cause further violence?

It wasn't because illegal torturing was occurring and that might fan the flames around the world?

14. Hmmm...how to choose the best form of "invasion"...
1). Have the photos released so that the international community can see what's going on behind closed doors and STOP IT, or...

2). Be "invaded" with fluorescent light tubes crammed into any available orifice while genetically challenged mutants like Lynndie England and her boneheaded squeeze snap some candids...

I'm guessing "1"...

December 9, 2004

FALLUJAH, Iraq - US troops fire off another volley of shots amid the trashed houses of Fallujah, hunting down new adversaries carrying a potentially deadly weapon that threatens to plague reconstruction efforts.

But this time the marines are not chasing down the insurgents who they defeated in a devastating assault on the city last month. Their quarry is stray animals grown fat on the flesh from corpses and who could harbor rabies.

24. Can somebody answer.....
Were these additional photos from the events that took place two or so years ago, or are these new photos of abuses that are happening right now?

I was very upset about the whole incident back then, and if there are recent photos that the abuse is still occuring, there is no way that the current administration could survive this.

Or, if this is just additional photos from back then, the story wouldn't pack as much punch. It would still incite rioting of much of the Arab world, but wouldn't near the political impact here.

these new photos are from the same time period as the 1st set.

"Or if this is just additional photos from back then, the story wouldn't pack as much punch. It would still incite rioting of much of the Arab world, but wouldn't near the political impact here."

But how do we know torture isn't still going on? Because this nazi administration says so?

28. We haven't seen the worst yet by a damn sight. There are
pictures of children being mistreated, remember? That's what I want on the table.

The bad thing is: It would show the worst war crimes to all the world. And it's true it would fan the flames around the world even higher. But still: Those war criminals must be punished. More, it must be avoided that the European countries side with the USA in further wars.

I say "BULLSHIT" to that comment. I saw those pictures yesterday and it made me sick to my stomach. I was ashamed to be an American yesterday but today I'm disgusted of being an American. To think "OUR" government/military did this to other human beings, try to cover it up, and now turning around and saying "IT's NO BIG DEAL...MOVE ALONG PEOPLE NOTHING TO SEE HERE"...Fuck that. I'm going to e-mail these new photo's to everyone I know.
